{"id":1890,"date":"2018-09-02T22:54:58","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T02:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/issa\/?page_id=1890"},"modified":"2018-10-16T02:54:49","modified_gmt":"2018-10-16T06:54:49","slug":"school-policies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/issa\/school-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Fordson Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>1) CELL\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>PHONE POLICY\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hazelwoodschools.org\/cms\/lib\/MO01909922\/Centricity\/Domain\/2126\/no-cell-phone-clipart-nTBGkMGgc.jpeg\" alt=\"Image result for NO CELL PHONE POLICY\" width=\"104\" height=\"113\" \/><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Fordson High School Cell Phone\/Electronic Device Policy helps to support a safe and productive learning environment in our school, and supports the Dearborn Public Schools Bylaws &amp; Policies regarding use of cellular phones (policy 5518). Cell phones\/electronic devices have become a distraction to the learning process. Students should not bring electronic devices to be used throughout the school day. However, if they choose to bring them, the following policy will be strictly adhered to for the upcoming school year:<\/p>\n<p><b>Fordson High School will not be responsible or liable for<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the theft, loss, data loss, damage, destruction, misuse or vandalism of any student\u2019s personal electronic device brought onto school property. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students <\/span><b>may possess or use<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> personal electronic devices on school property during these designated times: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Before school<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> until the beginning of the school day (7:15 a.m.) <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>During a student\u2019s lunch period <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>After school<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the bell rings at 2:15 \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout the rest of the school day, cell phones (including multiple phones per student, as well as \u201cdummy\/fake\u201d phones) <\/span><b>should be turned off<\/b><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and turned into a teacher-designated area in the classroom, and out of sight in the hallways between classes. (For PE\/gym classes, the phones need to be locked and secured in the gym locker. It can not be seen or heard during the class hour). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By allowing students to carry cell phones\/electronic devices into the building, students and their families are consenting to a search of that property by school officials when the need to conduct a search is determined. Instances may include, but are not limited to: bullying, harassment, academic integrity (cheating), threats, inappropriate or unintended photos of students and staff, or any other actions deemed inappropriate by administration. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a student is found to be in violation of this Cell Phone\/Electronic Device Policy, <\/span><b>the personal electronic device WILL BE confiscated by school personnel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>First Violation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> The device will <\/span><b>ONLY be returned to a parent\/guardian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the end of the day\/beginning of the next day. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Second Violation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> The device will be <\/span><b>ONLY be returned to a parent\/guardian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the next Monday or Friday, which will be designated as cell phone pick up day (depending on when the incident took place). \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Third Violation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> The device will be kept by the school until the end of the school year\/semester and must be picked up <\/span><b>ONLY by the parent\/guardian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Fourth &amp; Future Violations<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span> The student will receive a disorderly conduct ticket issued by the Dearborn Police Department, where the parents must pay a fine in order to have the device returned to them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">REFUSAL TO TURN IN CELL PHONE\/ELECTRONIC DEVICE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">If student and\/or parent refuses to turn in the cell phone\/electronic device, the incident will be considered insubordination and the following: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>First Violation Refusa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">l: <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Automatic <\/span><\/span><b>one day suspension &amp; parent meeting for the student to return <\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Second Violation Refusal:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"> Automatic <\/span><b>three day suspension &amp; parent meeting for the student to return<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Third Violation Refusal:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Automatic<\/span> <\/span><b>five day suspension &amp; parent meeting for the student to return<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>2) Student <\/b><b>Attendance\/Audit Policy<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ten or more absences will result in reduce credit for the class. \u00a0Reduction in credit will mean the class will have to be retaken in ASAP or summer school. \u00a0There will be no exceptions to the district policy. Our goal is that all students attend classes and graduate on time!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Below are the highlights of the policy:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #ff0000;\"> A student who is over fifteen minutes late to class is considered to be absent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #ff0000;\"> Two lates (5 to 15 minutes) in a class is considered to be an absence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #ff0000;\"> Four tardies in a class is considered to be an absence.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><i>Exceptions to the policy are as follows:<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) \u00a0School related absences<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) \u00a0Suspensions<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) \u00a0Documented absences <\/span><b>(only for three days in a row)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0such as illness, hospitalization, death in the family documentation must be received within 10 days of the absences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A student who receives reduced credit will receive their full credit and their letter grade if they earn a 78% or higher on the end of term common\/comprehensive assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1) CELL\u00a0PHONE POLICY\u00a0 The Fordson High School Cell Phone\/Electronic Device Policy helps to support a safe and productive learning environment in our school, and supports the Dearborn Public Schools Bylaws &amp; Policies regarding use of cellular phones (policy 5518).
