During the month of September, I had the pleasure of meeting all my students and introducing some of the new STEAM material to them…<\/p>\n

Students also participated in a\u00a0STEAM Design Challenge “My Most Magnificent Thing”.\u00a0 Students listened to the book The Most \u00a0Magnificent \u00a0Thing by Ashley Spires.. the events in the book related to The Engineering and Design Process and inspirational for students to\u00a0build their own magnificent thing.\u00a0 \u00a0S<\/span>tudents \u00a0explored the materials that are available to them\u00a0 such as rolled up newspaper rods, recyclable items (toilet paper rolls, milk \u00a0jug caps, parts from broken toys, etc.) They also used some tools such as scissors, tape, glue, staplers, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students brainstormed\u00a0as a whole group, \u00a0in small groups, \u00a0or individually, the kinds of things they might create. They sketched and labeled a plan on the recording sheet, as well as listing or drawing materials needed. Then they created! Students went through trials and errors as they built their magnificent things, but it was all part of the learning process. <\/span><\/p>\n

Students recorded the final product\u00a0by drawing\/labeling once the \u00a0\u201cthings\u201d were finished. They reviewed their original plans and decided whether it worked or not. Finally, they shared their \u201cthings\u201d with each other.\u00a0 \u00a0I’ve\u00a0displayed the magnificent things with the planning sheets on\u00a0the bulletin board outside the classroom. <\/span><\/p>\n
