WOW! Can you believe it’s October already? Our first month of school flew by!<\/p>\n
Here is what you can expect your child to be doing and learning in class this week. As always, please contact me with any questions.<\/p>\n
Language Arts:<\/strong><\/p>\n We will be focusing on the describing characters<\/strong> while reading texts. This is another strategy that will help with comprehension.\u00a0We will continue to practice looking back in a text to find evidence to answer questions. We will practice highlighting text evidence<\/strong>and rephrasing the question when writing our answers.<\/p>\n We will introduce adverbs <\/strong>this week and\u00a0practice expanding sentences focusing on subjects and predicates.<\/strong><\/p>\n I will continue administering the DRA reading test one-on-one with students throughout the week so we can get started soon with small group reading instruction. Some groups have started already, but you can expect reading bags to come home soon for reading practice at home. Remember, your child should be doing 20 minutes of reading every at home every day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Writing:<\/strong><\/p>\n We will continue to focus on narrative writing <\/strong>and\u00a0our prompt \u201cA Trip to the Apple Orchard.\u201d This week, we will practice putting our sensory details from our planning into paragraphs.<\/p>\n Math:<\/strong><\/p>\n We will continue to learn about multiplication<\/strong> and how it relates to division\u00a0<\/strong>as a fact family.<\/p>\n Science:<\/strong><\/p>\n Our focus for science will continue to be force and motion. Last week students used toy cars to investigate motion and speed. We recorded what we noticed and what we wondered about the movement of these cars. This week we will explore the idea of friction as it relates to motion and speed.<\/p>\n Social Studies:<\/strong><\/p>\n Moving along with geography of Michigan, we will learn about direction<\/strong> and location<\/strong> of a place.<\/p>\n Spelling:<\/strong><\/p>\n Our words this week will focus on short and long u<\/strong>\u00a0spelling patterns. Please study these words with your child each night so they can be prepared for the test on Friday. Remember, they will have 5 \u201csurprise\u201d words on Friday that are not on the spelling list, but follow the spelling pattern.<\/p>\n Have a great week!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" WOW!
