As always, please contact me with any questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language Arts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to learn the comprehension strategy of <strong>asking and answering questions<\/strong> before, during, and after reading to fully understand a story. We will continue to practice looking back in a text to find evidence to answer questions. We will practice highlighting <strong>text evidence<\/strong> and rephrasing the question when writing our answers.<\/p>\n<p>We will review adjectives and introduce <strong>adverbs<\/strong>. We will practice how to use these parts of grammar to expand out sentences.<\/p>\n<p>I will continue administering the DRA reading test one-on-one with students throughout the week so we can get started soon with small group reading instruction. As soon as I begin groups, you can expect reading bags to come home daily for reading practice at home. Remember, your child should be doing<strong> 20 minutes of reading every at home every day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to focus on <strong>narrative writing<\/strong>. Last week we learned how create events and details for our prompt &#8220;A Trip to the Apple Orchard.&#8221; This week, we will continue planning for this piece by learning about different types of <strong>leads<\/strong> to use to &#8220;hook&#8221; our readers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will continue to learn about <strong>multiplication<\/strong> and how it relates to <strong>division<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our focus for science will continue to be force and motion. We will be conducting an investigation this week where students will be able to explore the idea of <strong>friction<\/strong> and its effect on the <strong>speed<\/strong> of an object.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moving along with geography of Michigan, we will learn about <strong>direction<\/strong> and <strong>location<\/strong> of a place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our words this week will focus on <strong>short and long e<\/strong> spelling patterns. Please study these words with your child each night so they can be prepared for the test on Friday.
