{"id":22,"date":"2018-04-30T09:55:33","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T13:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/defaulttemplate1\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2018-09-06T18:16:01","modified_gmt":"2018-09-06T22:16:01","slug":"class-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hewittk\/class-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Class Info"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Course Philosophy Algebra 1<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Algebra 1 is the introductory course which is essential towards development of reasoning, analyzing and describing contextual situations through a mathematical lens. \u00a0Students will learn algebraic symbols, expressions and sentences so that they can model and analyze simulations of real situations. Students will further learn about arithmetic operations, exponentiation, linear and quadratic functions and all the characteristics of the graphs, tables and reasoning attached to the modeled situation.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0The course will emphasize a multi-representational approach to learning by expressing and exploring through graphical, numerical, analytical and verbal means.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Course Objective<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main objective of this course is to give students the understanding of algebraic concepts, related mathematical skills and appropriate technology necessary for success on the Summative Semester Exams and in subsequent mathematical courses. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Class Blog &#8211; <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hewittk\/\"><b>https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hewittk\/<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A description of weekly activities will be posted here along with a link to a calendar of activities and approximate dates of assessments. \u00a0Most classwork, notes and assignments will be on the ilearn page The enrollment code for our class page is ______.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Homework<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homework will be in the form of watching videos, reviewing notes and reflecting on the learning the student has done in class. \u00a0Students may have homework on a given day to complete work that was given class time to complete.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Quizzes and Tests<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These could happen weekly and at the end of each chapter. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Cell Phone Policy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cell phones are not allowed. \u00a0Please keep them put away out of sight (not even on your desk). \u00a0If I see it, I will take it to the office at the end of the day and the school policy on phones will be enforced. \u00a0(no backpacks on top of tables!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Extra Help<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are 400;\">hewittk@dearbornschools.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> . \u00a0I will either email you back or go over your question in class. \u00a0I am available after school Tuesday through Thursday, weekly. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Grading Policy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each assignment and assessment will be graded and students will receive feedback in a timely manner. \u00a0If you are absent for a test or quiz, you will be expected to make it up within 10 school days of the original absence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For each objective on the assignment the student will receive one of the following scores:<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>4<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advanced: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You clearly understand the material given and could teach or assist someone else. \u00a0Very minor mistakes made, none are conceptual, only arithmetic.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>3<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proficient:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You understand the material but are making some minor conceptual mistakes.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>2<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Partially Proficient:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have the basic grasp of the concept being studied, but there are some major conceptual misunderstandings.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>1<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not Proficient:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You have little understanding of the concept being taught and need to seek additional help.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your goal is to receive a 3 or a 4 on all of your objectives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Formative:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This includes homework, classwork, explorations, learning skills, etc\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I collect formative work in order to give you feedback. \u00a0You are expected to redo your work until it is all correct. \u00a0This is to ensure that you do not have any major misunderstandings for tests. \u00a0If summative scores are improved from the formative scores, they will replace the formative scores in the gradebook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Building and district policies in the classroom:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The building P.B.I.S initiative will be followed. \u00a0Please review the behavior matrix in the student handbook and note the posted behavior expectations for the classroom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The building tardy policy will be in effect. \u00a0You will receive an after school detention after you have received 6 tardies (cumulative in All your classrooms, not just mine). \u00a0BE ON TIME.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The classroom is a RED ZONE. \u00a0Please do not use your cell phone unless Mr. Hewitt has specifically asked you to use it for something. \u00a0PBIS will apply if you have your phone out.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The district attendance policy will apply. \u00a0If you accumulate 10 undocumented absences, you will be on audit. \u00a0To receive full credit, you will need a 78% or better on a cumulative
