This week our second grade students will be working on:<\/p>\n

Reading<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn\u00a0to\u00a0identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.<\/p>\n

Math<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. They will count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s<\/p>\n

Writing<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will write informative\/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.<\/p>\n

Science<\/strong>: Students will continue to learn\u00a0about the roles of water in Earth\u2019s surface processes. This also includes\u00a0 plate tectonics and large-scale system interactions<\/p>\n

Social Studies:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Students will describe the means people create for moving people, goods, and ideas within the local community. They will compare the physical and human characteristics of the local community with those of another community. They will describe the major landforms of the Earth )mountains, plains, valleys, hills).
