This week our second grade students will be working on:<\/p>\n

Reading<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn\u00a0and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.<\/p>\n

Math<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. They will understand the following as special cases:
\ncount within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.<\/p>\n

Writing<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will\u00a0write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.<\/p>\n

Science<\/strong>: Students will continue to learn\u00a0about the roles of water in Earth\u2019s surface processes This also includes Earth materials and systems.<\/p>\n

Social Studies:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Students will\u00a0\u00a0use maps to describe the spatial organization of the local community by applying concepts including relative location and using distance, direction, and scale. They will learn to describe land use in the community(e.g.where people live, where services are provided, where products are made.<\/p>\n
