{"id":1310,"date":"2018-04-22T18:30:42","date_gmt":"2018-04-22T22:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/harrisc\/?p=1310"},"modified":"2018-04-22T18:30:42","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T22:30:42","slug":"focus-for-the-week-of-april-23-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/harrisc\/2018\/04\/22\/focus-for-the-week-of-april-23-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus for the Week of April 23, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week our second grade students will be working on:<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn how to compare and contrast\u00a0the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will\u00a0partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will work on opinion writing. \u00a0They will work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong>: Students will learn about plants and insects. \u00a0We will be investigating and discussing butterflies, mealworms\/beetles, silkworm moths and brassica plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn about\u00a0resources to help us understand \u00a0about the past.
