{"id":2349,"date":"2020-01-21T11:23:47","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T16:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hankinsmedia\/?p=2349"},"modified":"2020-01-21T11:24:32","modified_gmt":"2020-01-21T16:24:32","slug":"2349","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hankinsmedia\/2020\/01\/21\/2349\/","title":{"rendered":"#Students1stDbnSchs-Press Release #31-Dearborn Schools receives second budget presentation award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Press Release #31\/2019-20<br>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan.21, 2020<br>Contact: Thomas Wall, Executive Director of Business Services<br>(313) 827-3014 wallt@dearbornschools.org <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dearborn Schools recognized for budget presentation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second year in a row, Dearborn Public Schools has been recognized for excellence in how it presents its budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Association of School Business Officials International recently awarded the district a Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the current 2019-20 fiscal year.&nbsp; The group\u2019s MBA and Pathway to the MBA promote and recognize the best budget presentation practices in school districts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The budget is handled by Tom Wall, Executive Director of Business and Operations, and his staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to receive this recognition.&nbsp; While financial information for such a large district is inherently complicated, we work to make our information and processes understandable and available to our community, including the Board of Education,\u201d Wall said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dearborn Public Schools has a combined annual budget of more than $307 million and approximately 20,700 students. &nbsp;An overview of the district\u2019s financial records is available on the District website at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dearbornschools.org\/\">https:\/\/dearbornschools.org<\/a>&nbsp;under Transparency Reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MBA participants submit their applications and budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents.&nbsp; Dearborn\u2019s submitted document was more than 370 pages long and included some overview information about the proposed BRICS Bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDistricts that apply to the MBA or Pathway to the MBA programs recognize the importance of presenting a quality, easy-to-understand budget internally and to the community,\u201d ASBO International Executive Director David J. Lewis said. \u201cParticipating in the MBA or Pathway programs provides districts with important tools and resources they need to communicate the district\u2019s goals and objectives clearly and illustrates their commitment to adhering to nationally recognized budget presentation standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 1910, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is a nonprofit organization that, through its members and affiliates, represents approximately 30,000 school business professionals worldwide.
