{"id":3157,"date":"2019-03-25T15:32:54","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T19:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hammouh\/?p=3157"},"modified":"2019-03-25T15:32:54","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T19:32:54","slug":"focus-for-the-week-of-march-25-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hammouh\/2019\/03\/25\/focus-for-the-week-of-march-25-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus for the week of March 25, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week our second grade students will be learning:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn to identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Students will learn to add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and\/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds. They will mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900. Students will explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will learn how to write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events by developing believable characters in my story<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong>: Students will learn\u00a0about the plants and how they grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies:<\/strong>\u00a0Students will\u00a0explain why people cannot have everything they want (scarcity) and describe how people respond (choice). They will describe the natural, human, and capital resources needed for production of a good or service in a community<\/p>\n<p>Spelling:<\/p>\n<p><b>Hard and soft g and c (gym, gift) (face, cave)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Group 1: cent, cave, gym, girl, city &#8211;\u00a0 broke, dirty, plant, send, mark<\/p>\n<p>Group 2:\u00a0cent, cave, gym, girl, city, just, from, any, how, know<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2019\/02\/download-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2293\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/bridger\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2019\/02\/download-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"248\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week our second grade students will be learning: Reading: \u00a0Students will learn to identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
