{"id":1218,"date":"2017-09-08T08:38:37","date_gmt":"2017-09-08T12:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/truxalc\/?p=1218"},"modified":"2017-09-08T08:38:37","modified_gmt":"2017-09-08T12:38:37","slug":"parent-letter-beginning-of-the-year-repost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/hallc\/2017\/09\/08\/parent-letter-beginning-of-the-year-repost\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Letter- Beginning of the Year repost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September 6, 2017<\/p>\n<p>Dear Parents,<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to Ms. Truxall\u2019s class and the 2017-2018 school year. \u00a0\u00a0I am very excited about working with you and your child this year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing.<\/p>\n<p>Our goals for all of our children are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To have a positive, happy attitude towards school and learning and foster a sense of curiosity.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To build and reinforce habits of initiative, concentration, persistence and independence.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To allow each child to progress at their own pace and at the same time challenge their abilities.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To develop a sense of high self esteem, a sense of order and inner discipline.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To foster socially acceptable behavior.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To create a caring and supportive classroom community.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To allow each child to develop the skills they will need to be successful in school and in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following should also give your family information about the school year.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Attendance<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0School begins at 8:40am. \u00a0Students need to be in the classroom and ready to work at 8:40am. \u00a0If a student arrives in the class after 8:40am, he\/she will be marked tardy. \u00a0<b>Students will be allowed to come to the classroom at 8:35am and no sooner. <\/b><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<b>Please remember there will be some late starts on Wednesdays. \u00a0Watch for notes pertaining to the dates of these days.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If your children are going to be absent, please call the office and let them know.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Please plan family vacations according to the school\u2019s calendar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Dismissal<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Our school day ends at 3:35pm. \u00a0Please arrive at 3:35pm to pick up your children. \u00a0We will bring your children out to the back of the school. \u00a0When your child sees you, he\/she must \u201cfist pump\u201d my hand and tell me who is here to pick him\/her up. \u00a0This allows me to know exactly when a student is leaving and with whom. \u00a0<b>Please be sure whoever is picking up your child that his or her name is on the Emergency Card in the office.<\/b> \u00a0I will not release your child without this information. Younger siblings will dismiss with older siblings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>III. <b><i>Snack<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Snack will be held at approximately 10:00am.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Students will only be allowed to eat a healthy snack.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Healthy snacks include: Fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, healthy dry cereals such as Cheerios, granola and cereal bars, pudding, yogurt, etc. \u00a0Chips, cookies, candy, fruit chews, etc will not be eaten at snack. \u00a0Your child will have to save it for lunch.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<b>Because we do not have a drinking fountain in the classroom, students will be allowed to bring a small bottle of water only.<\/b> \u00a0Please no juice, pop or lemonade. \u00a0If spills become a problem, I will have to disallow drinks. \u00a0Thanks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Spelling<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Students will receive a new list of spelling words for the week on Mondays. Please practice these words with your child. \u00a0He\/she will be responsible for spelling them correctly on tests and in everyday work. Tests will be on Fridays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Math<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This year the teachers will use games, some lessons from the Everyday Math series and Dearborn\u2019s lessons to teach math. \u00a0Math activities, games, computers and some worksheets will be used in class. We will be using some computer websites \u00a0this year to assist in teaching and allowing the children extra math practice with games and activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i> Homework<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Read every night for 20 minutes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Certain assignments can be taken home if not finished in time.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<i>Fact sheets will be sent home for homework twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<i>Journal writing will be assigned on Tuesdays and Thursdays for homework.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Study for Spelling Tests on Thursday nights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>VII. <b><i>Friday Folders<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Each student will have a Friday Folder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Throughout the week, the folder will be filled with completed, loose work and sent home. Folders need to be returned on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>VIII. <b><i>Communication\/Homework Folders<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Students will receive a Communication Folder that must be kept in his\/her backpack. \u00a0Any homework or notes going home or coming back to school should be placed in this folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All folders must then be placed in the black bin every morning.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Sharing (Show and Tell)<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0On Fridays, students may bring in something to share with the class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><b><i>Communication<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I would like to make myself available to talk with parents as much as possible but please understand that I am very busy in the mornings preparing for the day and will not be available to talk. \u00a0Please give your child a note in the morning and I will read it as soon as possible. \u00a0I will also be available after school on certain days. \u00a0If you would like to talk, please call the office, leave a note in my mailbox, send a note in with your child or send me an email. \u00a0My address is truxalc@dearbornschools.org. \u00a0<b>Email is the best way to reach me!<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Volunteer<\/b>s -We are in need of many parent volunteers to assist throughout the school \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0year. \u00a0I will send home a volunteer form for parents to sign up.<\/p>\n<p><b>Blog<\/b>&#8211; Please visit my blog on the district website. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You should <b>soon<\/b> receive my emails about class updates and important information. \u00a0If you are not receiving my emails, please contact me.<\/p>\n<p><b>Birthdays<\/b>&#8211; This year birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the day. \u00a0Children may bring in a small treat for the students to eat. \u00a0Examples include cupcakes, brownies or cookies. \u00a0No elaborate gifts or party bags will be allowed. If you\u2019d like a healthy alternative, send in a fruit tray or decorative pencils\/erasers.<\/p>\n<p><b>Birthday invitations<\/b>&#8211; If you are giving your child a birthday party and want to invite certain children from the class, you will have to <b>give out those invitations outside of school<\/b>. \u00a0You may pass out invitations only if you are inviting the entire class. \u00a0Too much class time is spent on consoling those who are left out. \u00a0Sorry for the inconvenience.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking forward to a wonderful year!<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Truxall<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 6, 2017 Dear Parents, Welcome to Ms. Truxall\u2019s class and the 2017-2018 school year. \u00a0\u00a0I am very excited about working with you and your child this year and look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing.
