{"id":306,"date":"2013-05-06T15:50:31","date_gmt":"2013-05-06T19:50:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/graphicslab\/?p=306"},"modified":"2013-05-06T15:50:31","modified_gmt":"2013-05-06T19:50:31","slug":"what-is-a-2-pencil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/graphicslab\/2013\/05\/06\/what-is-a-2-pencil\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a #2 pencil?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number on a pencil indicates the amount of hardness or softness the writing core has.<\/p>\n<p>A #1 pencil is very soft, makes a dark mark, and tends to smudge.<\/p>\n<p>A #3 or #4 pencil is very hard, makes a light mark, and tends to \u201cdent\u201d the paper.<\/p>\n<p>The #2 grade pencil makes a nice dark mark that is easy to see (or scan . . . for tests), is easy to erase, and doesn\u2019t smudge.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, pencils do not have lead in them.
