I know that the first week of school can be hectic and chemistry can be a challenging new subject to study. In this first week, the student’s and I focused on a few goals that I hope will continue throughout the school year.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Get to know one another.<\/li>\n
  2. Establish some common norms for our class.<\/li>\n
  3. Share in observing scientific phenomena (this week we focused on fire and candle flames).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The norms that the students discussed are the following:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. You are responsible for your own learning.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Respect your right and other\u2019s right to learn.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Active participation and collaboration.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Bring all materials to class.<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Utilize all class activities appropriately.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      These were discussed at length by the students and will be re-addressed as needed during the year. The norms will also be included in the syllabus (to be distributed during the second week).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
