These experiences can include one-on-one discussion, class discussion, reading, writing, art creation, experimentation, movement, singing, and reflection. The product of these experiences\u2014the &#8220;art&#8221;\u2014demonstrates a student&#8217;s understanding of concepts, vocabulary, and craftsmanship.\u00a0\u00a0Below are a few examples of past projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Superhero Puppets by Mr. Fackart<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students discussed the positive attributes of fictional superheroes and created a superhero of their own. \u00a0Each puppet is a self-portrait of the student-artist dressed up in a superhero costume and endowed with their own super powers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" Fish<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students learned about the properties of clay and sculpture while designing their very own fish. \u00a0Each fish had a unique texture, glazing, and its very own base to rest \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Complementary Shapes (OP Art)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Using markers, crayons, rulers, and geometric shapes, students created their own versions of optical art \u2013 art that tricks or excites the eye. \u201cComplementary colors\u201d were introduced to their vocabulary, and each student chose his or her favorite complementary pair for their drawing. \u00a0This project challenges students to create a pattern of alternating color, and an opportunity to enhance their fine motor skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Beautiful Birch Trees<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After studying images of trees and forests, students drew tree shapes with masking tape on paper and then created a colorful background with watercolor paint. \u00a0The tape was removed once the paint was dry, the tree was outlined, and mild shading was added with pencil. \u00a0Construction paper leaves were attached at the end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1299 aligncenter\" left;\"><strong>Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Learning about color groupings and rotational symmetry, students created their own version of hex signs. \u00a0 These painted\u00a0round signs incorporate designs such as stylized stars, rosettes, and wheels. \u00a0Often painted on barns in the Midwest, these traditional artworks were thought to ward off \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Decorated Skulls for Day of the Dead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Day of the Dead is a festive Mexican holiday celebrating the lives of our ancestors. \u00a0Contrary to most American cultures, skeletons are not perceived as \u201cscary\u201d on this holiday, instead being a happy reminder of loved ones who have passed on. \u00a0In learning about this cultural tradition, students decorated paper skulls in a joyful manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-290 aligncenter\" their own names. \u00a0After folding their papers in half and writing their names with a marker, students pressed their papers against the windows and traced their names in reverse on the back side. \u00a0Afterwards, they created designs within the letters and colored the drawing using primary, secondary, or intermediate colors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
