We will be doing a short How-To paper next week on How to Catch an Elf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spelling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Both 2nd and 3rd grades are working on beginning blends. A blend is when 2 or 3 consonants are next to each other and you hear each sound. For example, in the word &#8220;stripe&#8221; you hear each sound of the \/s\/, \/t\/, and \/r\/ together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-embed-aspect-4-3\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blends Song | Letter Blends | Consonant Blends | Two Letters that Work Together | Jack Hartmann\" width=\"648\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RCCFqWV8S7E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Blend Video by Jack Hartman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Math<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2nd Grade<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are working on using several strategies to compose and decompose a Ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson 8: Use math drawings to represent the composition and relate drawings to a written method.<br> Lesson 9: Use math drawings to represent the composition when adding a two-digit to a three-digit addend.<br> Lesson 10: Use math drawings to represent the composition when adding a two-digit to a three-digit addend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson 11: Represent subtraction with and without the decomposition of 1 ten as 10 ones with manipulatives.<br>\nLesson 12: Relate manipulative representations to a written method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3rd Grade<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will be building the foundations of understanding area and relate it to arrays and multiplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson 1: Understand area as an attribute of plane figures.<br> Lesson 2: Decompose and recompose shapes to compare areas.<br> Lesson 3: Model tiling with centimeter and inch unit squares as a strategy to measure area.<br> Lesson 4: Relate side lengths with the number of tiles on a side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lesson 5: Form rectangles by tiling with unit squares to make arrays.<br>\nLesson 6: Draw rows and columns to determine the area of a rectangle given an incomplete array.<br>\nLesson 7: Interpret area models to form rectangular arrays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Both grades will be constructing a project in class to showcase their learning of the unit we just completed.
