Suffixes are endings that change the form of the word.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The suffix -ful means &#8220;full of&#8221; , so &#8220;careful&#8221; means &#8220;full of care&#8221; and &#8220;joyful&#8221; means &#8220;full of joy.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The suffix -able means &#8220;capable of,&#8221; or &#8220;fit for.&#8221; Hence, the word &#8220;washable&#8221; means able to be washed.<\/li>\n<li>The suffix -ness means &#8220;the state of&#8221;. It turns adjectives into nouns, such as, darkness, goodness.<\/li>\n<li>The suffix -ly turns adjectives into adverbs which describe verbs or actions. For example: He is <em>slow<\/em>. <em>Slow<\/em> is describing <em>he<\/em>. He moves <em>slowly<\/em>. <em>Slowly<\/em> is describing how he <em>moves<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The words this week are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>friendly<\/li>\n<li>careful<\/li>\n<li>coldness<\/li>\n<li>walkable<\/li>\n<li>likely (means probably)<\/li>\n<li>helpful<\/li>\n<li>kindness<\/li>\n<li>washable<\/li>\n<li>slowly<\/li>\n<li>truthful<\/li>\n<li>awareness<\/li>\n<li>likeable<\/li>\n<li>proudly<\/li>\n<li>greatness<\/li>\n<li>thankful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The test will be THURSDAY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week we are studying suffixes added to root words.
