DIRECTIONS: <\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
1] Obtain a tin can, remove label, remove lid carefully, remove \/empty out the contents (<\/strong>Do not waste food<\/em>), and wash with soap & water.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: <\/em><\/span><\/strong>The edge of the can will be sharp.  Sandpaper or file edges to smooth<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2] Fill the can with tap water almost to the top and place in a freezer.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
3] Research “Tin Can Candle Holders” via the Internet for examples \/ ideas.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
4] Taking the ideas that you observed, create and carefully draw out a couple of different original designs.  Make sure that the designs cover \/ fill the space (<\/strong>top to bottom<\/em>) around the entire can.<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: <\/span><\/strong>Creating an original design means that you looked at other people\u2019s designs for ideas, but you did not straight-up copy them.  You are allowed to take bits and pieces of other people\u2019s ideas \/ designs and arrange those pieces differently to create your own original designs.  I hope you understand that I will check and will take the time to go to Google page 4,567,463 to make sure that your designs are all yours…<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5] Pick the one design that you are going to use and make it a final design by making sure that it is the same size as your tin can, that the design covers the entire area, and the drawing is as good as it will get (good craftsmanship \/ good quality \/ not messy \/ NO SKETCHES!). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6] Take a picture of your final design, you will be handing it in for points.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7] Retrieve the tin can with the now frozen water in it from the freezer<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
8] Tape the final design around the tin can<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
9] Get a towel, a hammer, pliers, and a variety of nails in different sizes.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
10] Place the can on its side on the towel.  Hammer the nails into the can by following the design for the final.  Make sure that you are spacing out the nail holes evenly throughout the design.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

TIP: <\/em><\/span><\/strong>Use the pliers to pull any nails out that you have hammered into it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

11] Make any adjustments at this time.  Try to imagine what the can would look like if you put a candle in it and lit it at night.  Are there any spots that need a hole to complete the design? etc.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
12] When finished, thaw the water in the can.  Once the water is thawed, dry the inside of the can. <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

(REMEMBER THERE ARE HOLES IN THE CAN NOW AND THE WATER WILL LEAK OUT IF NOT PLACED SOMEWHERE THAT CAN CONTAIN THE WATER ONCE IT THAWS…<\/span><\/strong>)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

13] Find a candle or a small flashlight.  Wait until it is dark or go into a dark room or area like a basement.  Put the candle or small flashlight into the candle holder and light it \/ turn it on.  (<\/strong>Do not leave it unattended!<\/span><\/em>)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
14] Look to see how the design appears when lit from within. Make any final adjustments.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
16] When everything is to your liking and you are completely done, take pictures all around the can to show me how it looks like. This can be done in the dark with either a candle or flashlight in it<\/strong> or in the light as long as I can see the design in the pictures.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

18]  Write a self-critique \/ reflection about this project (<\/strong>at least a paragraph \/ 7 sentences<\/em>).<\/strong> Explain to me what you did (start to finish) in order to create successful designs and a final tin can candle holder. What was your thinking process when creating those designs; did anything influence your designs? Did you have any issues doing this project or it was a piece of cake? How do you actually feel about your tin can candle holder? Will you actually keep it in your room and use it or are you embarrassed by it and you threw it out after you took pictures of it? etc. etc. etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19] Submit everything in iLearn for a grade.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
