I have been teaching Third grade at Henry Ford for fifteenth years.\u00a0 It is rewarding to observe the students improve academically as the year goes by.\u00a0 I hope your child had an enjoyable summer and is well rested.<\/p>\n<p>My goal is to help your child learn all content areas as the year progresses.\u00a0 Your cooperation as parents is essential to ensure the success of your child by making sure homework and assignments are done in a timely manner.<\/p>\n<p>I would appreciate providing these supplies to your child on the first week of school:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 bottle of hand sanitizer<\/li>\n<li>2 boxes of facial tissues<\/li>\n<li>1 bottle of hand soap<\/li>\n<li>1 box of Clorox\/Lysol wipes<\/li>\n<li>5 boxes of pencils<\/li>\n<li>5 wide rule spiral notebooks ( green, red, black, blue, and yellow)<\/li>\n<li>4 folders ( green, blue, yellow, red)<\/li>\n<li>1 pencil box or pouch<\/li>\n<li>1 box of colored pencils<\/li>\n<li>1 ( 24 pack ) of crayons<\/li>\n<li>1 glue stick<\/li>\n<li>1 pair of scissors<\/li>\n<li>1 small sharpener with a cover<\/li>\n<li>Headphones ( not wireless)<\/li>\n<li>Sticky Notes Pack<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Classroom Procedures and Policies\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Behavior Management System<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students begin their day on green indicating that they are ready to start class.\u00a0 If a child chooses to break the rules, he\/she will clip down to yellow (warning).\u00a0 If the behavior continues, the child will clip down to orange (reflect), where he\/she will have to fill out a think sheet about the choices that resulted in the situation and how to correct it.\u00a0 If the pattern continues, the child status will be on red and will be sent to the office. \u00a0An office staff\/administrator will call home and give a consequence.\u00a0 A child will always have a chance to correct his behavior and clip up. A student that ends his\/her day on green for 4 out of the 5 school days per week will get to participate in a monthly celebration.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Planner<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your child will be given a planner to log all school homework and upcoming tests and projects.\u00a0 This is to help keep you informed about your child\u2019s assignments and help stay organized.\u00a0 Please do not sign your child\u2019s planner unless all homework and assignments are completed.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Tests<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tests will be sent home for you to review. Please sign the test and return it with your child the following day.\u00a0 Your child will be given several small assessments throughout each card marking for the various standards on the report card.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Homework<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your child will be given homework on a daily basis.\u00a0 We work very hard in school to help our students become responsible.\u00a0 Please contact me if your child does not complete the homework promptly.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Friday Folders<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a teacher, I collect all corrected work, tests, and quizzes and place them in their Friday Folders.\u00a0 There is a sheet that requires your signature as well a space for you to write any comments.\u00a0 Please look through your child\u2019s work and sign the sheet to verify that you have seen his\/her work.\u00a0 Only the sheet that has your signature needs to be returned to class.\u00a0 This Friday Folder should be sent back on Monday morning with your child.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Contacting me<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Always feel free to contact me through my email at <a href=\"mailto:fawazs1@dearbornschools.org\">fawazs1@dearbornschools.org<\/a>.\u00a0 You can also call the school office at 313-827-4700 to discuss any matter of your concern.<\/p>\n<p>Again, I welcome you and your child to this year 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grade.
