{"id":76,"date":"2019-08-22T08:51:27","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T12:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/fardous5\/?page_id=76"},"modified":"2019-09-04T18:46:39","modified_gmt":"2019-09-04T22:46:39","slug":"syllabus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/fardous5\/syllabus\/","title":{"rendered":"Syllabus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Email: fardoum@dearbornschools.org<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BLOG:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/fardous5\/\">http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/fardous5\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Course Descriptions and topic covered<\/strong>:<br>This\nis a two semester course in which students will learn to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Analyze characteristics and properties of two- and\nthree-dimensional geometric shapes and develop mathematical arguments about\ngeometric relationships. <\/li><li>Analyze mathematical situations using postulates and theorems.<\/li><li>Use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling\nto solve problems.<\/li><li>Prep for SAT<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MATERIALS<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Required<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A graph paper notebook\ndivided into three parts : Bellwork, Notes, Homework <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>2- A 2 inch binder for\nstudent workbook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Writing supplies (Pens, Pencils, highlighters,\u2026..) <\/li><li>After school internet access either home, school, or public library<\/li><li>Geomerty kit<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CLASS RULES AND PROCEDURES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>BE PREPARED <\/strong>\u2013 Bring\n     papers\/notebook, pencil, to class every day. The classroom is a \u201c<strong><em>red\n     zone<\/em><\/strong>\u201d which means that cell phones, earbuds or are to remain out\n     of sight during at all time. Food and drinks are <strong>not allowed<\/strong> in the classroom except for water. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>BE RESPECTFUL<\/strong> \u2013 Be\n     polite \u2013 Give other students, teachers, and other adults proper respect by\n     addressing them by their name and maintaining your own personal space\n     (keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself at all times).&nbsp; Name calling, gossip, and harassment of\n     any form will not be tolerated.&nbsp;\n     Offensive language and behavior will not be tolerated.&nbsp; Avoid fighting, assaulting, and any\n     inappropriate physical contact (including tripping, punching, pushing,\n     poking, and rough housing).&nbsp; No\n     running, chasing, or throwing objects in the classroom.<\/li><li><strong>BE RESPONSIBLE<\/strong> \u2013 Enter the\nclassroom quietly, sharpen pencils <strong>before<\/strong>\nthe bell rings, and be seated in your assigned seat by the time the bell\nrings.&nbsp; When the bell rings, immediately\nbegin working on the SLOTS. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>*All other school and district policies will be enforced in the\nclassroom.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/efhs.dearbornschools.org\/\">http:\/\/efhs.dearbornschools.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. THE SCHOOL IS A RED ZONE-<\/strong>Students are not allowed to have their phones in\nthe class or in the hallways. (Refer to the school cell phone policy)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consequences\n(Unless Otherwise Specified Above)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1<sup>st<\/sup> Offense:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Verbal Warning<\/li><li>2<sup>nd<\/sup> Offense:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Move to different seat.<\/li><li>3<sup>rd<\/sup> Offense:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Parents contacted. <\/li><li>4<sup>th <\/sup>&nbsp;Offense:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; administration\nreferral <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Laptop and Internet Procedures:<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The use of laptops in this\nclassroom is as an educational tool to enhance the students\u2019 learning of\nalgebra. Students will be expected to use laptops responsibly and for the\npurposes required by the class, <strong>no games\nor email.<\/strong> Violations will result in laptops being confiscated for the\nremainder of the block or until the next morning, at my discretion.<\/li><li>We are using new resource this\nyear that require daily online access. Homework will be assigned online.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Homework<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Homework will be assigned most days and is expected to be completed the next day.\u00a0 Students are responsible for completing all assigned problems and obtaining help when needed.\u00a0 It is <strong>YOUR<\/strong> responsibility to get the homework when you were absent. Color system will be used to resemble completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Participation\/bellwork\/notes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are expected to participate daily in class. It part of their formative assessment. Color system will be used to resemble completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.<strong>Unit Quizzes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students should expect to take <strong>one quiz<\/strong> each week to check for understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; 4. Unit Assessments <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of each unit an individual test is given.&nbsp; This serves as an opportunity for students to\ndemonstrate what they, as individuals, have learned from the whole unit.&nbsp; Each unit exam will have a rubric which\ndetermines how each problem is scored according to the 4-point grading\nsystem.&nbsp; Unit tests will be <strong>summative grades<\/strong>. Cheating and\nsightseeing will not be tolerated and will result in a zero. Administrative\naction in accordance with school policy will follow. The teacher\u2019s judgment\nwill be the final call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. <strong>Quiz and Test Makeup: <\/strong>Test\nmake ups will need to be scheduled after school with Ms. Fardous and\nsometimes during class time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. Test\nRetakes:<\/strong> Retakes will be in a different form than the original test.&nbsp; Students must meet <strong>retake criteria: <\/strong><em>(90% of\nassignments from units needed to be completed, corrections made on test, parent\nsignature on first test, a good effort given on first test)<\/em> in order to\nqualify for a retake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grading System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summative&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;75%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formative\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Quizzes\/Homework\/classwork)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0    20%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Final Exam\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0          5%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EXTRA HELP:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are responsible for getting the help you need.&nbsp; Please ask for help as soon as you realize\nyou need it!
