{"id":185,"date":"2019-04-08T14:43:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T18:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ellsmith\/?p=185"},"modified":"2019-04-10T14:07:47","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T18:07:47","slug":"endangered-species-project-in-7th-grade-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ellsmith\/2019\/04\/08\/endangered-species-project-in-7th-grade-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Endangered Species Project in 7th grade Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research teams (of three students)\u00a0 choose a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthsendangered.com\/list.asp\">threatened \/ endangered species<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Research Scientists for the federal government, students conducted research to educate themselves about an animal&#8217;s habitat, reproduction, future, history, appearance\/ behavior, enemies and survival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each team member chose between the following roles: \u00a0Ecologist, Zoologist and Conservationist and completed the individual background research. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Teams worked to form a lobbyist group that developed a 5 minute persuasive plan of recovery to get their animal off the threatened \/ endangered species list using an Infographic Slide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the lobbyist group prepared and presented the information to Congress (Ms. Bitar and Ms. Hammoud) who selected the endangered animal that will be financially sponsored.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One team, consisting of Maya Othman, Max Polster, and Taylor Snow were selected to virtually adopt &#8220;Jimmy the Wombat&#8221; due to their in depth research on the Common Wombats endangered species status and ecological factors that contributed to their population decline. Here&#8217;s a picture of &#8220;Jimmy&#8221; and his new adopted parents (who are welcome to visit him at the Australian Zoo if they are ever in the neighborhood).<\/p>\n<p>Here are the NGSS and CCSS covered in this Project.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MS-LS2-4.
