We just finished reading Ray Bradbury&#8217;s ALL SUMMER IN A DAY and have been identifying the parts of the plot.  Some of the vocabulary students have been learning includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">protagonist, antagonist, exposition, conflict (internal and external), rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, point of view<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Morning Bell Work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each morning students focus on various word parts (prefixes, Greek\/Latin root words) as bell work.  The meaning of each word part is discussed and students must use a word containing the word part in the context of a sentence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>QUIZ<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>THIS FRIDAY, students will have a quiz on the prefixes and root words we&#8217;ve been discussing.  Students were given a list of root words to use as a study guide.  <strong>Additionally, <\/strong>the quiz will include some prefixes and vocabulary from ALL SUMMER IN A DAY listed below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NUMBER PREFIXES<\/strong>&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">uni-one<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>mono-one  <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>  di-two<\/strong>    <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <strong>tri-three   <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <strong>quad-fou<\/strong>r<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All Summer in a Day Vocabulary<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>slacken- to slow<\/strong> <strong>or lessen<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>resilient-  <\/strong><em><strong>flexible, bendable or someone who doesn&#8217;t give up<\/strong>             <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>frail- <\/strong><em><strong>weak or delicate<\/strong><\/em>            <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>apparatus- <\/strong><em><strong>a device or equipment used for a specific purpose  <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>immense- <\/strong><em><strong>big, very large<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>savor- <\/strong><em><strong>to enjoy completely<\/strong>  <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>tumultuously- in a wild, disorderly way<\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DATES TO REMEMBER<\/strong>                                                                                                     November 6th-Picture Retake Day  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>November 11th and November 13th Parent-Teacher Conferences<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students have been learning about the structure of narrative text and the parts of a plot diagram.
