Reading, Writing, and Baskets!

Greetings and Happy Monday! Our class will continue reading The Tiger Rising this week and discuss theme, setting, and characterization. We will also move into the drafting phase of our narrative writing – yes, this is exciting stuff!! As we are working hard to learn all there is to know about narrative text, we would also like to help out the PTSA and create a basket for the upcoming fair. Please consider donating $1-$5 to Ms. Eifert’s and Ms. Greenbaum’s 7th grade ELA basket this week so that we can make something spectacular for the tin can raffle!

Thank you so much for your support and have a good week!

Components of Narrative Texts

Greetings and Salutations!

We are halfway through the week and working diligently on our stations that all focus on narrative texts. The stations offer a variety of skills such as making inferences, characterization, and plotting out the story. The students will have to complete four of the six by Friday and will focus on the other two as the novel comes to a close next week. Please ask your student about these stations and reach out with any questions.

Have a great week!

Narrative Reading and More!

This week we have been working on our Narrative pre-assessment to determine our strengths and weaknesses as we dive in to the narrative unit. This unit of study will encompass the reading of a short novel with a review of plot, characterization, point of view, and figurative language, as well as drive how we develop individual narrative writing pieces. The students are looking forward to how our story evolves!

Until Next Time,

And We’re Back Up and Running!

This week we will finish up NWEA testing in the 7th grade, as well as work on our Argumentative and Narrative pre-assessments. Then we are diving into a short novel to get our Narrative Unit under way, finally. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.

Have a wonderful week,

Chelly Eifert

Happy Monday!

This week we will be NWEA testing. Students will have an alternate schedule on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in order to accommodate the test. They will also be diving into the Narrative Unit. During the card marking, they will focus on all essential components of what makes a narrative while they read and write within the genre. All students should be actively reading a narrative of their choice in order to fully emerge into the topic.

On a side note, both myself and Ms. Greenbaum (co-teacher for 1st, 2nd, and 4th hour) will be out of the room on Wednesday for a professional development. We may have time to pop in during the day, however the students will have a substitute teacher. Please take the time to remind your student of how to treat a guest teacher. It is early in the year, and somewhat unexpected, but as a team we can support our students to be respectful and kind in these situations.

Respectfully,

Chelly Eifert

A Message from the PTSA

Please strongly consider joining the PTSA.  Place $10 with your name in the PTSA mailbox— or— personally hand it to The President, Carrie Schoolmaster.  You will carry no obligation to attend meetings.  We are hoping to attain 100% Viking Staff membership prior to the group’s first meeting (Oct. 15).
Thanks!

Welcome Back!

Happy Tuesday to all! We are back and have a lot to go over in the next 4 days. We will begin by reviewing the PBIS system here at Smith and then create a Classroom Social Contract. This contract will set the standard of how we all want to be treated in the Language Arts Classroom. We will also have time for some fun team building and bonding to set us up for a great school year!

I am so excited to be part of your student’s educational experience here at Smith. Please reach out anytime with questions, comments, or concerns.

Don’t forget to check out your student’s Google Classroom for daily updates and homework.

Respectfully,

Chelly Eifert

Welcome Back and Happy Memorial Day!

Greetings!

It is my hope that you took time to enjoy the sunshine this past weekend as America celebrated Memorial Day.

We are back in full swing here in ELA! The students will be reading short articles assigned through Google Classroom each day this week, as well as finishing up their civilization project and presenting it to the class.

Book logs have ended for the year in the gradebook, but please encourage students to continue reading novels of high interest to increase overall comprehension heading into summer and beyond.

Have a great week and please reach out with any questions or comments.

Respectfully,

Chelly Eifert
