{"id":3541,"date":"2019-05-22T15:47:15","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/edesantis\/?p=3541"},"modified":"2019-05-22T15:47:15","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:47:15","slug":"5th-grade-mall-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/edesantis\/2019\/05\/22\/5th-grade-mall-2\/","title":{"rendered":"***5th Grade Mall!!!***"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>5<\/u><\/strong><strong><u><sup>th<\/sup><\/u><\/strong><strong><u> Grade MALL!<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>May 21, 2019<\/p>\n<p>Dear Parents and Guardians,<\/p>\n<p>The fifth grade classes are participating in a token economy. \u00a0Students earn \u201cmall money\u201d by completing homework, exhibiting great behavior, and demonstrating leadership qualities here at Snow School. \u00a0We make it more exciting by having the students buy and sell goods and services. \u00a0We call this event \u201cThe Mall\u201d and ask that each student think of something to sell at the mall.<\/p>\n<p>All the goods or services sold must be hand created. \u00a0In addition, students are <u>not<\/u> permitted to sell food or drinks. \u00a0<u>We have challenged the students to create a good or service in an original way. \u00a0We want to eliminate the purchasing of goods at a real store to sell at the mall<\/u>. \u00a0Students from other grades, who qualify to attend the mall, based on their behavior for the month of May, will be purchasing items from the 5<sup>th<\/sup> graders. \u00a0Only5th graders will create an original good or service.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Our mall will take place on Friday, June 7<sup>th<\/sup> , 2019 \u00a0from 2:00-3:15 in the school cafeteria<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Social Studies class, the students are developing a business plan and will be working on a script for a 30 second commercial to advertise their good or service. \u00a0We will broadcast commercials, to the school, a few days before the mall activity.<\/p>\n<p>Please help us make this activity a success by assisting your child with selecting\/developing a good or service to sell at our mall. \u00a0<strong>We ask that you do <u>not<\/u> spend any \u201creal\u201d money on your student\u2019s product<\/strong>. \u00a0<em>However<\/em>, if you must, we ask that you greatly <strong>limit<\/strong> the amount.<\/p>\n<p>The use of a classroom token economy has been proven to be effective in teaching economic principles to students. \u00a0Thank you for your support with this endeavor. \u00a0If you have any questions, please contact your child\u2019s classroom teacher.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>Here is a list of some, but not all, previous goods\/services sold at the mall:<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Services<\/em><\/strong><em>: Skill games, photography booth, play an instrument, and more!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Goods\/Crafts<\/em><\/strong><em>: Bead jewelry, hand drawn pictures, string jewelry, ornaments, distorted photos (student took pictures and distorted them to create funny images), origami (paper folding), original stories, hand paintings, how-to books, decorations made from recycled goods, hand-made picture frames, original games, original poetry, etc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>These are just a few ideas\u2026get creative! <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ALL GOODS AND\/OR SERVICES MUST BE APPROVED BY A TEACHER BEFORE SELLING.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>DO NOT SELL<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>: SLIME, PUTTY, Play-Doh, FOOD, LIVE ANIMALS, lava lamps, hair coloring, nail painting, face painting, hair-braiding, and stress-balls.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,<\/p>\n<p>Mr. DeSantis<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Sherlock<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>5th Grade MALL!
