Most Important Word-<\/strong> This strategy focuses the readers attention on the main ideas of the passage. This strategy is used during reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a0Read selection (usually a paragraph or a short section of a chapter)<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Choose 3 words you feel\u00a0are important to the selection.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Next to EACH word write the reason the word was chosen.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Circle the BEST word you chose.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Write a 1-2 sentence summary of the selection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    DOUBLE ENTRY JOURNAL-<\/span><\/strong> This strategy is used during reading. \u00a0This strategy helps students make connections to the reading.<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. \u00a0Read the selection or passage.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. On the left side of a T-chart write\u00a0one of the following:<\/span>\n
        \n
      • main idea of the passage<\/span><\/li>\n
      • key idea<\/span><\/li>\n
      • important words<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • On the right\u00a0side of the T-chart, write one of the following:<\/span>\n
          \n
        • a connection to a science experiment<\/span><\/li>\n
        • an explanation or reaction about the reading<\/span><\/li>\n
        • what you may be confused about<\/span><\/li>\n
        • a question you may have<\/span><\/li>\n
        • a connection to your life, another reading, a book or movie<\/span><\/li>\n
        • what you are wondering about<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          THIEVES-<\/span><\/strong>This is a pre-reading strategy. \u00a0Students use this strategy to preview the reading selection. \u00a0This is much like seeing a movie trailer before seeing the movie. \u00a0Students are to complete the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

          • T<\/strong>-Read the Title<\/strong>\/Write what this reminds you of<\/span><\/li>\n
          • H<\/strong>-Read each Heading<\/strong>– Write an overview of the content<\/span><\/li>\n
          • I<\/strong>-Read the Introduction<\/strong>– Write how this relates to you<\/span><\/li>\n
          • E<\/strong>-Write Everything<\/strong> you know about this topic (3 Sentences)<\/span><\/li>\n
          • V<\/strong>– Read each Vocabulary<\/strong> word\/ Look at each Visual<\/strong>, read each caption. Write about one visual<\/span><\/li>\n
          • E<\/strong>-Read the End of the Chapter<\/strong> questions<\/span><\/li>\n
          • S<\/strong>-Read the Summary<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            3-2-1 Reading Strategy-<\/span><\/strong>Use this strategy to help understand the most important parts of the science reading selection.<\/span><\/p>\n

            3<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Write three<\/strong> science vocabulary words.\u00a0 Next to each word write why it is important to the article.<\/span><\/p>\n

            2<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 Write two<\/strong> interesting facts found in the article.\u00a0 Next to each fact explain why you picked the fact.\u00a0 Examples of reasons you may have picked the fact could be: the fact was interesting, creative, disgusting, entertaining, informative.<\/span><\/p>\n

            1<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Write one<\/strong> summary of the article. Summary should be 4-6 sentences.\u00a0 The summary should include a topic sentence, details and a summary sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
