This strategy is used during reading.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0Read selection (usually a paragraph or a short section of a chapter)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Choose 3 words you feel\u00a0are important to the selection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Next to EACH word write the reason the word was chosen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Circle the BEST word you chose.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Write a 1-2 sentence summary of the selection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">DOUBLE ENTRY JOURNAL-<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> This strategy is used during reading. \u00a0This strategy helps students make connections to the reading.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0Read the selection or passage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On the left side of a T-chart write\u00a0one of the following:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">main idea of the passage<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">key idea<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">important words<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On the right\u00a0side of the T-chart, write one of the following:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">a connection to a science experiment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">an explanation or reaction about the reading<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">what you may be confused about<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">a question you may have<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">a connection to your life, another reading, a book or movie<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">what you are wondering about<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">THIEVES-<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This is a pre-reading strategy. \u00a0Students use this strategy to preview the reading selection. \u00a0This is much like seeing a movie trailer before seeing the movie. \u00a0Students are to complete the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>T<\/strong>-Read the <strong>Title<\/strong>\/Write what this reminds you of<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>H<\/strong>-Read each <strong>Heading<\/strong>&#8211; Write an overview of the content<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>I<\/strong>-Read the <strong>Introduction<\/strong>&#8211; Write how this relates to you<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>E<\/strong>-Write <strong>Everything<\/strong> you know about this topic (3 Sentences)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>V<\/strong>&#8211; Read each <strong>Vocabulary<\/strong> word\/ Look at each <strong>Visual<\/strong>, read each caption. Write about one visual<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>E<\/strong>-Read the <strong>End of the Chapter<\/strong> questions<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>S<\/strong>-Read the <strong>Summary<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">3-2-1 Reading Strategy-<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Use this strategy to help understand the most important parts of the science reading selection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>3<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Write <strong>three<\/strong> science vocabulary words.\u00a0 Next to each word write why it is important to the article.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>2<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 Write <strong>two<\/strong> interesting facts found in the article.\u00a0 Next to each fact explain why you picked the fact.\u00a0 Examples of reasons you may have picked the fact could be: the fact was interesting, creative, disgusting, entertaining, informative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>1<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Write <strong>one<\/strong> summary of the article.
