Now that the NWEA tests are complete, each student is expected to reflect upon what made him\/her successful from the fall test to the winter test. \u00a0The reflection is to be written down, then transferred to the ePortfolio. \u00a0If you are unfamiliar with the ePortfolio, please ask your son\/daughter about it. \u00a0This is a great way to have goals in mind, in order to strive for success.<\/p>\n
Also, we have a late start on Wednesday, February 15th.<\/p>\n
Our mid-winter break is February 20 – February 24. \u00a0Be sure to keep reading 20 minutes per night to raise the NWEA scores.<\/p>\n
There is much success to celebrate with the winter NWEA Reading test and the Language Usage test. \u00a0For the Reading test, there was a 69% increase in the fall test to the winter test; 25% decreased; and, 6% remained the same. \u00a0For the Language Usage test (editing, mechanics, and writing process), there was a 55% increase in the fall test to the winter test; 37% decrease; and, 8% stayed the same.<\/p>\n
I look forward to the spring NWEA test to see how much growth each student has achieved from the fall of this school year to the spring of this school year. \u00a0Please continue to have the dialogue with your son\/daughter as to the importance of reading, as it improves thinking, writing, listening.<\/p>\n
As a Language Arts department at Unis Middle School, we discussed having one section of Honors English in the 8th grade for the next school year and one section of Honors English in the 7th grade for the next school year. \u00a0We discussed the necessary criteria to be in either of the sections: \u00a0NWEA Reading scores, NWEA Language Usage scores, Grades, Work Ethic, and Teacher Recommendation. \u00a0If your son\/daughter is interested, feel free to send your son\/daughter to have a conversation with his\/her Language Arts teacher.<\/p>\n
