{"id":291,"date":"2017-01-31T08:08:25","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T13:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/drinkes\/?p=291"},"modified":"2017-01-31T08:08:25","modified_gmt":"2017-01-31T13:08:25","slug":"the-week-of-january-30-february-3-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/drinkes\/2017\/01\/31\/the-week-of-january-30-february-3-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"The week of January 30 &#8211; February 3, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning,<\/p>\n<p>We have another busy week. \u00a0We begin the second semester (which is also the start of the fourth card marking). \u00a0In my Language Arts classes, we will focus on argumentative text features, such as lead, thesis, claim, evidence, transitions, counterargument, refute, clincher. \u00a0The students will work independently on one article, then transition into small group work where the students will read an article, then create an argumentative essay, then write the essay on chart paper <strong>or<\/strong> create a presentation using Google Slides.<\/p>\n<p>The NWEA Science test will be administered in science class.<\/p>\n<p>Report cards most likely will be handed to each student on Friday, February 3rd.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to continue your independent reading each night for 20 minutes and filling in a reading response journal entry each time.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the Language Arts department at Unis Middle School will discuss having an &#8220;Honors English Class&#8221; at the middle school level for the 2017-2018 school year. \u00a0Initially, we would like to have one section open for an 8th grade Honors English class. \u00a0We would need to set the requirements first, though. \u00a0Also, there might be one section open for a 7th grade Honors English class. \u00a0This is very exciting news.
