Scissors workout great and no one gets hurt! Our theme is simulated texture or invented texture, in the video the theme is music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">In our class we will not be printing with our collagraph plate (collage), in this case the plate is the final artwork. Once your design is finished, cover it with one unifying color- I recommend kitchen foil. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cover your collagraph with a piece of kitchen foil (if you have it) to give it one unified color and tack the foil in place with a small amount of glue, or you could paint it. Try to unify the work\u2019s outer surface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Tuesday, April 28 &#8211; May 1: The Gist<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Watch the following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NngCJ-qjpW8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">demonstration video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> to see how to cut shapes out from the center of a paper sheet, and then place it in the correct place to create a mirror image (if that is which direction you wish to work in). Of course, there are full directions in our Google Classroom Slideshow including examples from the masters and student examples.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Monday, April 27 Review:<\/h4>\n<p>Since we are all still trying to understand and digest the new requirements for virtual learning I think it&#8217;s a good idea to review the material. For homework please re-read the district memo in regard to credit requirements for each class (condensed high school version below),<br \/>\nStudents who chose to:<\/p>\n<p>-Engage in 75% of remote lessons and hangouts &amp; earn a 75% or higher score on submitted assignments per class can still earn an &#8220;A&#8221; grade for this class. (Option 1, I hope you all strive for this option\/target)<\/p>\n<p>-Engage in 60-74% of remote lessons and hangouts &amp; a passing grade on 60-74% of assignments per class can earn a &#8220;G&#8221; grade for this class. (Option 2)<\/p>\n<p>-Engage in less than 60% of remote lessons and hangouts &amp; earn a passing grade on less than 60% of assignments will receive no credit. Most of you followed the rules of\u00a0 etiquette expected and communicated by DPS and DHS. Remember that these are recorded meetings, please be mindful about that in the future if you wish to receive full credit for participation. If you were one of the few people that missed our meeting today, no worries, you can make it up on Wednesday. I&#8217;ll keep you posted as the situation evolves&#8230;it&#8217;s evolving over the next 2-3 days at least. One sure thing that evolved so far from yesterday is that student work is going to count-they are still working out the details on what that will look like. Another important detail-especially for seniors and juniors, if at all possible you want to earn a grade for your transcripts vs. credit only for the class. To earn a grade you must participate, and turn in work (<strong>your own work<\/strong>). If you need a chromebook please email me or your counselor at the school to find out about availability. I&#8217;ll keep you posted as I learn new information.<\/p>\n<p>Is there any chance that you know a person in our class that is not participating in online virtual learning yet? Why not? Also- we will start brainstorming ideas on paper for next year&#8217;s planner cover.<\/p>\n<h4>December 9th- 14th<\/h4>\n<p>Students are working with coil construction this week and some are further developing the surface of their cube design.<\/p>\n<h4>December 2nd- 6th<\/h4>\n<p>The students will make aesthetic choices about how to complete their cube; they will choose media, color scheme, and further select principles of design to ensure success of their final product.<\/p>\n<h4>November 18th-26th &#8211; Thanksgiving Break<\/h4>\n<p>The majority of the thematic cubes are completed and now it is time to consider surface. It would be impossible to cover surface without considering color theory, color schemes, and paint vs. glaze -all of which will be reviewed and practiced prior to applying a final surface design.<\/p>\n<h4>November 11th-15th &#8211; Friday marks the end of the 2nd card marking<\/h4>\n<p>Thematic cube progress -the form is due Friday. Several students had difficulty maintaining moisture in their slabs and had to remake sections of the cube. Other students are in the final assembly, opening of the lid and refinement stages of the form.<\/p>\n<h4>November 4th-8th &#8211; No school Tuesday for students<\/h4>\n<p>Students are in the construction stages of building a thematic cube. They are encouraged to pay careful attention to craftsmanship and maintain moisture control over the slabs.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>October 21st -25th<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Students are focused on the low relief design work this week. They have to properly join applique&#8217; onto all sides of the cube and plan for a surprise element on the interior of the cube as well.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>October 21st -25th<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>All sides of the cube should be unified in form and in surface design, that will require a solid action plan. Once the plan is mapped out students are free to begin making slabs and adding designs in low relief.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>October 14th -18th<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Students will plan a thematic cube design to be made out of clay using the slab construction process.\u00a0 This week will consist of planning an individual cube design and teaming with a peer to create a &#8220;collaborative&#8221; woven basket for the upcoming fundraiser &#8220;Empty Bowls&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h4>October 7th-11th:\u00a0 Students have a 1\/2 day Friday 10\/11<\/h4>\n<p>Students are assembling their glazed mosaics, grouting mosaics, glazing pumpkins and reflecting on the results\/outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, next week is parent teacher conferences.<\/p>\n<h4>September 30th &#8211; October 4th<\/h4>\n<p>Students are getting a true studio experience; they have several art works in progress simultaneously. They will explore several methods of surface design that alter the forms surface prior to the firing process. Also, collaboration plans for the annual Empty Bowls project is underway.<\/p>\n<h4>October 15-19:<\/h4>\n<p>The long process is wrapping up- students assembled their cubes this week, cut the tops open and inserted a special surprise element to the inside of their cube!<\/p>\n<h4>October 8- 12th:<\/h4>\n<p>Students will elaborate each slab used in the cube design.
