First grade students had a great first week of school working hard as they learned our classroom routines. \u00a0Thank you for all of the classroom supplies.<\/p>\n
Open House is on Thursday, September 14, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. \u00a0 I look forward to meeting everyone. \u00a0Students are excited to show you our classroom.<\/p>\n
We are starting our Spelling weekly word lists this week. \u00a0Each week on Monday, your child will get a new list of spelling words to study for the week. \u00a0They will also have spelling homework. \u00a0On Friday, each week we will have a spelling test. \u00a0The test is given in a spelling booklet. \u00a0I will send the spelling booklet home after the test is graded so you can see how your child did on the test and sign the booklet. \u00a0Please help your child study the words. \u00a0Making flash cards really helps students learn the words.<\/p>\n
Our Special Class schedule may change. \u00a0Special classes include gym, art music, media and technology. \u00a0I will send the Special Class schedule home when it is finalized. \u00a0This week, students have Gym on Wednesday. \u00a0Please have your child wear gym shoes on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Homework each day will include 15 minutes or more of reading. \u00a0Each student has a book bag. \u00a0The book bag is sent home each day and students read their good fit books for homework. \u00a0Each book can be read a few times to build fluency. \u00a0Please have your child return the book bag each day because we use them during reading groups. \u00a0I am currently testing each student to determine reading levels.<\/p>\n
Homework also will include a math page. \u00a0Please make sure your child completes the homework and returns it to school in the Haigh folder.<\/p>\n
