Hello First Grade Families,<\/p>\n
Here is an outline of what first grade students will be learning this week. \u00a0During Daily 5, students will be working on read to self, work on writing and word work. \u00a0During word work, students will practice spelling the words for the week.<\/p>\n
The weekly spelling list will be sent home Monday. \u00a0Please have your child practice spelling the words each day. \u00a0Friday, students will have a spelling test.<\/p>\n
Math lessons will continue to include addition; counting by 2’s and 5’s; and use of a number line. \u00a0Use of a thermometer will be discussed.<\/p>\n
Writer’s workshop will involve students in writing a personal narrative. \u00a0Students will create a topic list.<\/p>\n
Social Studies lessons will include discussion of family. \u00a0Students will also study the use of a calendar and the importance of keeping track of historical events.<\/p>\n
During Science, students will learn to compare living and nonliving things.<\/p>\n
Homework will include reading 15 – 20 minutes each day. \u00a0Also, students should review spelling words.<\/p>\n
Our day to check out books from the school library is Friday. \u00a0Please have your child return his or her library book by Friday.<\/p>\n
Tuesday is our PE (Gym) day. \u00a0Please have your child wear or bring gym shoes Tuesday.<\/p>\n
