Hello First Grade Families,<\/p>\n
First grade students are doing very well learning new routines at school. \u00a0We have been discussing the importance of making wise choices by listening and following directions.<\/p>\n
During Daily 5, we have been practicing Read to Self. \u00a0Students are building stamina, or the ability to focus and read for longer periods of time. \u00a0We have also had mini lessons in which students are learning strategies to increase reading comprehension.<\/p>\n
Students are becoming better writers during our Writer’s Workshop. \u00a0We have studied the idea of selecting a topic and writing a personal narrative.<\/p>\n
Math lessons have included addition, counting practice, number recognition, and the use of a number line to count.<\/p>\n
During our science lessons, we have been learning to observe using our five senses. \u00a0Students learned to use a circle map to describe an object.<\/p>\n
Social Studies lessons have involved discussion of family.<\/p>\n
Open House is Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 6:30 – 7:30. \u00a0I look forward to meeting everyone at Open House.<\/p>\n
