{"id":168,"date":"2017-10-13T18:14:48","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T22:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dist\/?p=168"},"modified":"2017-10-13T18:14:48","modified_gmt":"2017-10-13T22:14:48","slug":"this-week-in-review-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dist\/2017\/10\/13\/this-week-in-review-2\/","title":{"rendered":"This Week in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Science<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This week in science we concluded our engineering unit.\u00a0 The students should of complete their reflective questions on the tower prototype on page 12 of their cognitive science notebook.<\/p>\n<p>In addition they completed a Summative assessment of the engineering method by writing a report to the city planner about a bridge they plan to build.\u00a0 They included terms like form, structure, reinforcement,\u00a0 model, design, prototype, collaboration, infer, observe, evidence,\u00a0 and engineering design process.<\/p>\n<p>We also started a new unit on thermal energy.\u00a0 Our driving question is What causes feelings of hot and cold?<\/p>\n<p>NWEA score reports went home and the students used the reports to fill out the &#8220;My Science Learning Plan&#8221; portion of their planner.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Math<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This week the students took a bellwork quiz on ratio, prime numbers, greatest common factor(GCF), and the divisibility rules.\u00a0 We also introduced using the GCF to simplify fractions.<\/p>\n<p>The program we are piloting has arrived.\u00a0 In class everyone logged on to the ebook.\u00a0 They can access the online book through my blog.\u00a0 There is a link on the side of the page under &#8220;class link&#8221;\u00a0 they just have to\u00a0 sign on with google (A RED RECTANGLE).\u00a0 A letter went home that should be returned if your child does not have access to the internet.<\/p>\n<p>The student worked through a scavenger hunt to help familiarize them with how the book is set up.\u00a0 There are math notes at the end of every section.\u00a0 They can also find these in the core connections course 1 toolkit.\u00a0 They will be receiving them on Monday.\u00a0 The focus of the first chapter is to introduce some of the big concepts of the math course, such as organizing data and using mathematical reasoning to make predictions.\u00a0 \u00a0They will develop several ways to represent (or show) mathematical ideas.\u00a0 They will represent ideas using numbers, and symbols, diagrams, words, and various kinds of tables.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Science This week in science we concluded our engineering unit.\u00a0 The students should of complete their reflective questions on the tower prototype on page 12 of their cognitive science notebook.
