Please take a picture of your child reading a book and send email it to me at dimitrm@dearbornschools.org<\/a><\/p>\n

We will use these pictures to make a special craft for \u201cMarch is Reading Month\u201d to hang on our lockers. This is a school-wide project! All of the lockers will be decorated with a picture of the children reading a book and each child will make a tent here at school that the picture will be glued on to. Thank you for helping us complete this project by emailing a picture of your child by Monday, February 27th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Beginning March 1st, I will be welcoming parents into the classroom to read a book of your choosing to the class. This will take place each day at 9am. If you would like to sign up for a morning to come read to the class, I will have a calendar with available days for you to sign up for when we return from break. I will bring the clipboard with the calendar with me to dismissal on Monday, February 27th and every day after until all interested families have signed up. Thank you for coming in to read to the children!<\/p>\n

Our Valentine\u2019s Day party was a great success! Thank you to all of the parents that helped to make our party fun for the children! Here are a few pictures from the party:<\/p>\n

The children made heart paper plate hats, Valentine wreaths, necklaces, decorated heart cookies, competed in a candy heart relay race, and played Valentine games on the computer.<\/p>\n

No Red Folders or Reading Pouches sent home today due to mid-winter break.<\/p>\n

Please put your child on readingeggs.com at home and have them do a couple of lessons each night.\u00a0 This can count on the reading log in the homework for some of the nightly reading!<\/p>\n

Please try to have your children on Reading Eggs as much as possible during break! This will really help them to keep up their skills while not at school! The kids love going on this program and it really helps their reading and writing abilities to improve!<\/p>\n

Reading\/Writing:\u00a0<\/strong> We finished our informational reading and writing about animals that hibernate. All of the children completed a \u201cblueprint\u201d or graphic organizer, however not all of the children published their writing about each animal. Here is a picture of our R.A.N strategy and our published writing that is hanging in the hallway:<\/p>\n

Spelling words for next week will be in the homework packet coming home on Monday.<\/p>\n

Please continue to have your child practice writing at home. Here is what I am looking for in class:<\/p>\n

Uppercase to start the sentence<\/p>\n

End punctuation (. ! ?)<\/p>\n

Finger spaces between words<\/p>\n

Does the sentence make sense? Are the words in the correct order?<\/p>\n

Does the picture match the words?<\/p>\n

Did you stretch your sentence? (Is there a noun, adjective, and verb?)<\/p>\n

Math:\u00a0<\/strong>We took our +7 math quiz. Yesterday, I sent home the +8 flashcards to practice over mid-winter break. We will take the +8 quiz on Friday, March 3rd.<\/p>\n

This week we began learning about comparing numbers using the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols. The children were able to complete a fun project where they rolled dice and had to decide which number the greater than alligator head wanted to eat or if the numbers were the same (equal to). The projects are hanging in the hallway!<\/p>\n
