Dear Parents,<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcome to our classroom! This will be a year filled with many new experiences and learning for your child.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have just begun our Daily 5 and Literacy CAFE adventure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

D<\/span>aily 5 <\/span>is<\/span> the structure we <\/span>use to plan our morning. Children will be busy completing meaningful lit<\/span>eracy tasks:<\/span><\/p>\n

Read to self<\/span><\/p>\n

Work on writing<\/span><\/p>\n

Word Work<\/span><\/p>\n

Listen to reading<\/span><\/p>\n

Read to Someone<\/span><\/p>\n

While the students are engaged in their literacy choices<\/span>, I will be teachi<\/span>ng small groups and individuals, so everyone can get the just-in-time instruction they need to reach their potential. <\/span><\/p>\n

CAFE is what we study during the Daily 5 time. CAFE is an acronym for the four major components of reading:<\/span><\/p>\n

C for Comprehension<\/span><\/p>\n

A for Accuracy<\/span><\/p>\n

F for Fluency<\/span><\/p>\n

E for Expanding Vocabulary<\/span><\/p>\n

Your child will learn reading strategies within each category. These strategies will become tools that help them become better readers and writers. I will keep you informed <\/span>through weekly newsletters of the <\/span>new strategies <\/span>that <\/span>are <\/span>introduced to the whole class<\/span>. You’ll be updated about your child’s individual strategies through Parent Pipelines. Both of these communication<\/span>s will help you reinforce<\/span> concepts when you read with your child at home.<\/span><\/p>\n
