{"id":285,"date":"2018-12-05T14:38:01","date_gmt":"2018-12-05T19:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dexter\/?p=285"},"modified":"2018-12-05T14:38:01","modified_gmt":"2018-12-05T19:38:01","slug":"week-of-december-3rd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dexter\/2018\/12\/05\/week-of-december-3rd\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of December 3rd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reminder Wednesday, December 12th is Late Start!\u00a0 Class will begin at 8:55am.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what is happening this week in 5th grade:<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are comparing and contrasting different versions of the Gingerbread Man.\u00a0 This week we read Gingerbread Man Loose in the School.<\/li>\n<li>We also began reading a new read aloud called &#8220;The Fourteenth Goldfish&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Spelling words this week are: airproof, afternoon, lagoon, fireproofing, raccoon, foolproof, hooligan, pontoon, proofread, blooming, schooling, doorknob, flooded, football, moodiest, caboose, rookie, snoozes, wooly, balloon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We began working on writing and interpreting numerical expressions using a visual model.<\/li>\n<li>Today we worked on converting numerical expressions into unit form as a mental strategy for multi-digit multiplication.<\/li>\n<li>The rest of the week we will be working to connect visual models and the distributive property to partial products of the standard algorithm without a remainder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will begin Mystery 3 about seasons and the earth&#8217;s revolution.<\/li>\n<li>The students will be asked &#8220;Why do the stars change with the season?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>We will do an experiment to create a Universe in a Box.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We began talking about the three western African empires: Ghana, Mali, and Songhay.<\/li>\n<li>We will review what we learned about the empires and talk about why salt was more important to the people than gold at that time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If there are any questions at any time, please let me know.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reminder Wednesday, December 12th is Late Start!\u00a0 Class will begin at 8:55am.
