{"id":264,"date":"2018-10-02T10:15:05","date_gmt":"2018-10-02T14:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dexter\/?p=264"},"modified":"2018-10-02T10:15:05","modified_gmt":"2018-10-02T14:15:05","slug":"week-of-october-1st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/dexter\/2018\/10\/02\/week-of-october-1st\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 1st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had a great time on the field trip last week!\u00a0 Check out Class Dojo for pictures on the class story.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what is happening this week:<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spelling words this week: photosynthesis, weight, mode, although, range, reaction, whether, challenge, approach, matter, abolish, whimper, chosen, action, homophones, relation, physical, hyphen, interaction, charity.<\/li>\n<li>We are working on finding the theme of a drama by identifying details of character experience in a text.<\/li>\n<li>We are also having students explain using academic vocabulary what the theme, details, challenge, and characters are of a story or text.<\/li>\n<li>In writing we are going to begin writing a Text Dependent Analysis to prepare for M-Step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are starting lesson 5 of Eureka math that focuses on identifying decimal fractions in expanded, unit, and word forms by applying place value reasoning.<\/li>\n<li>Students will need to explain the decimal fractions using the vocabulary: hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths, thousandths.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are wrapping up the three branches of government.<\/li>\n<li>We will begin talking about state and federal government powers and which powers are shared.<\/li>\n<li>Then we will discuss how a bill becomes a law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will begin mystery 3 on acids, reactions, and properties of matter.<\/li>\n<li>Students will be asked the questions: What would happen if you drank a glass of acid?
