March 30, 2017

Dear Families,

The kids did a fantastic job in the concert tonight. I would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Mrs. Webber for putting the concert together.

I realized after everyone left today, that I still had report cards sitting on my desk for students who didn’t have conferences last night. I will send the report cards home tomorrow!! Wayne RESA had a problem with their computers this week so, some of the Language Arts grades and Math grades have been written in by hand. Also a lot of the students grades in Language Arts under RLK appear to have gone down from the 2nd marking period to the 3rd. That is not the case. More standards were assessed in the third marking period under RLK, than in the in the second, and that caused their grade to go from a 1 (Exceeding) to a 3 (Progressing).

Please mark your calendars for the Parent Meeting on Monday, April 10th. The time was changed from 6:00 to 5:45. We will be talking about the impact that the new “Read by Third Grade” law will have on your child, as well as, strategies that you can use to work with your child at home. It is very important that you attend.

Finally, school closes at the end of the day tomorrow for our Spring Break. School will re-open on Monday, April 10th.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

March 30

Good Afternoon Families,

The kids and I are super excited for the concert tonight. All Kindergarten students will be meeting in Room 102. Both myself and Mrs. Stawara will be in there with your child. Room 102 is on the left-hand side, in the same hallway as the Gym, just pass the Kids Club Room.  Once you have dropped off your child at 5:45 to Room 102, we ask you to go get your seat in the Auditorium. Kindergarten will sing first followed by First Grade, and then Second grade. If you or a grandparent are unable to stay for the concert, then your child can not stay by his or her self.

Thank you so much for all your help and support!! I can’t wait to see you tonight!!

Dear Families,

The Spring Concert is Thursday, March 30th. The concert will begin at 6:00. Our class and Mrs. Strawars’s class will sing first, followed by the First Grade and Second Grade classes. If your child will be attending the concert, please arrive  by 5:45 so that we can get them lined up in their spots. The dress code for the concert is for the students to dress nice. The kids are super excited!!

So we can be prepared, a note went home today asking if your child can or can’t come to the concert. Please fill it out and return it to school tomorrow.

Thank you so much!!

Dear Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I had a couple quick updates:

I am sorry it took a while but I have the access name and access code for the website on the March homework calendar. When you go to the website click on the family link at the top. The access name is: croft (all lowercase letters) and the access code is: c2016 (all lowercase).

When you go to the Raz-kids website, there is a button to push that will allow you to try Raz-Kids for free for 14 days.

If I have scheduled a Parent-Teacher conference with you on Wednesday, March 29th, please check your child’s folder for a reminder of the time.

March 19, 2017

Good Evening Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. There are just a couple of quick reminders that I have for you.

First of all, this week will be our Spring Spirit Week. The days are as follows:

  • Monday: First Day of Spring- Wear green or clothes that have tress or flowers on them.
  • Tuesday: Mismatch Day – Wear clothes or accessories that don’t match.
  • Wednesday: Twin Day – Plan ahead and dress like your best friend (or group of friends).
  • Thursday: Backwards Day- Turn your clothes around and inside out.
  • Friday: Detroit Tigers Day: Wear Tigers gear, or navy and orange.

The cost to participate in spirit week is $1.00 per day.

Next, Wednesday is our Spring Parent Teacher Conference Night from 4-7. Since it is only one night, I will be meeting with some of our student’s families. Please check your child’s folder for notes regarding the need and time of our meeting.

Finally, please mark your calendars for an important meeting on Monday, April 10th. This is the first day back after Spring Break. We will be discussing the new “Read by Third Grade” law that Gov. Snyder signed last Fall, and the impact it could have on your child. The meeting will be from 5:15-6:30 on Monday, April 10th. There will also be a PTA meeting at 6:30.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Good Evening Families,

Due to finding out about the Book Fair so late, your child still has the opportunity to shop tomorrow. Just have your child pick out a book and send the money to school in the morning.

Enjoy the rest of your evening!

March 1

Dear Families,

Happy March! A couple of quick reminders:

Thank you to all the volunteers, who helped both in the classroom, and who prepped items over break. I would also like to thank all the families who donated items for our 100th Day Celebration yesterday. The kids had a blast! We could not have done it without all your help!

We are starting March is Reading Month, so I will be sending home a calendar with fun reading activities you can do with your child.

Please make sure that you continue to practice the books in your child’s book baggie, their sight words, and spelling words daily. It is very important to set good study habits now with your child.

Also, tomorrow is our Book Fair day. If you choose too, have your child pick out a book and then send in the money. If your child doesn’t have money then, they will not be allowed to shop. This is a good way for your child to get new books to read with you.

If you have a child, or you know a child who will be 5 years old by September 1st, our Kindergarten Round-up will take place on Wednesday, March 15th from 6:00-7:00.

Finally,  please be checking your child’s backpack for information regarding the new Reading by Third Grade law that the state recently passed. We are working on scheduling parent meetings to go over this new law and how it will effect your child.  One meeting will take place during the school day and the other will take place during an evening. Due to the passing of this new law, it is very important that you continue to work with your child at home to keep them at grade level.

Thank you for all your help and support.

February 26th

Good Evening Families,

I hope you had a wonderful break. Thank you to all the families who have signed up to donate items for our 100th Day Celebration. We are still in need of a couple of items and volunteers. If you are able to come in either for a little bit in the morning or in the afternoon, we would love to have you.

Since, our weather has gone back to Winter again after feeling like Spring, please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately to be outside.

We have had cases of pink at our school. If your child’s eyes are red or show other symptoms of Pink Eye, please keep them home, until cleared to return by a doctor.

We will be having our Scholastic Spring Book Fair this week. Check your child’s folder for a flyer with the book choices and our shopping day.

Finally, don’t forget about our school’s fundraiser tomorrow at Yogurtopia. Please make sure that you mention Whitmore-Bolles Elementary to the cashier so that we will get credit for your visit.

Thank you for all your help and support,

Amy Croft

Dear Families,

I am sorry for the delay. I have posted the sign-up geniuses for our 100th day celebration. There are two sign-ups. One is for items including some prep at home during the break. The other is for parent-volunteers. Our celebration will start in the morning and continue after lunch. We would love to have you for as long as you can stay.

This is the sign-up for items:

This is the sign-up genius for parent volunteers:

I need both morning and afternoon help. I will also need a couple parent volunteers to prep some items for our celebration at home. If you can help with this, then please sign up under the sign-up genius for celebration items. I will send home the items to be prepared along with directions tomorrow.

We will have our spelling test tomorrow. Also there is a popcorn sale tomorrow. Your child may purchase 1 bag of popcorn for $0.50 or 3 bags for a $1.00.

Tomorrow is the last day of school before Mid-Winter Break. There is no school from February 20th-February 26th. Please have your child practice their books from their book baggies during the break.

Finally, our Spring Scholastic Book Fair will take place the week after we get back from break. I will be sending home the flyers the Monday we get back.

Thank you for all your help and support! Enjoy your break!
