{"id":22,"date":"2013-03-05T08:02:13","date_gmt":"2013-03-05T13:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/defaulttemplate1\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2016-09-23T14:24:42","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T18:24:42","slug":"class-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/corriveausclass\/class-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Class Info"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Syllabus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Grade Language Arts\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Mrs.\u00a0 Corriveau\u00a0\u00a0 Room 42<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Course Overview:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This class will explore various composition styles and a broad range of literature and Informational Texts.\u00a0 Course work will involve quizzes and tests, formal papers, analysis of literature, group work, presentations, class discussions, journals and projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Grading Policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Grades will be given using a weighted point system.\u00a0 Homework will range from 10 to 25+ points depending on the assignment.\u00a0 Tests and quizzes may range from 10 to 50+ points.\u00a0 Presentation and group work grades will vary depending on the assignment.<\/p>\n<p>80% of your grade will be summative (tests, quizzes, projects, formal papers, presentations).<\/p>\n<p>20% of your grade will be formative (homework, participation, classwork).<\/p>\n<p>The grading scale is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>100%-99% = A+\u00a089%-88% = B+\u00a0 \u00a079%-78% = C+\u00a0 \u00a069%-68% = D+ \u00a0\u00a0\u00a059%-below = E<\/p>\n<p>98%-93% = A\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a087%-83% = B\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a077%-73% = C\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a067%-63% = D<\/p>\n<p>92%-90% = A-\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a082%-80% = B- \u00a0\u00a072%-70% = C- \u00a0\u00a0\u00a062%-60% = D-<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 There will be no rounding of grades.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Late summative assignments will lose a letter grade for each day they are late.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Retake Policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may retake a summative assessment one time, if you meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<p>A.\u00a0 you receive a score of 59% or lower<\/p>\n<p>B.\u00a0 you meet with me before\/after school to request the retake and discuss your original score.<\/p>\n<p>C. retakes must be scheduled before\/after school and completed within 1 week of the return of the\u00a0original assessment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Homework\/late work:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework is not optional.\u00a0 I expect every assignment to be done to the best of your ability.<\/p>\n<p>A.\u00a0 Homework is due as you walk through the door at the beginning of class.<\/p>\n<p>B.\u00a0 Late work will result in automatic half credit<\/p>\n<p>C.\u00a0 No late work will be accepted the last week of the card marking<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Classroom Procedures and Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Procedures:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bellwork will be posted on the board daily.\u00a0 As soon as you come to class, begin working on it.<\/li>\n<li>I only accept work done in blue or black ink.\u00a0 Pencil is fine as well.<\/li>\n<li>Use the proper MLA heading on all papers.<\/li>\n<li>Stay in your seat until I dismiss you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Rules:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Keep your hands (and feet) to yourself.<\/li>\n<li>Raise your hand and wait to be called on before you begin speaking.<\/li>\n<li>Come prepared for class every day<\/li>\n<li>No gum, food or drinks.\u00a0 Water is ok.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>*SSR:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SSR is an important component of this class.\u00a0 The specific procedures and norms will be explained on a separate SSR instruction sheet<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You must have the proper materials by _________________.\u00a0 This will be one of the first grades in the grade book.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 1-11\/2 inch binder with pockets.<\/li>\n<li>10 tab dividers.<\/li>\n<li>Loose leaf paper.<\/li>\n<li>Writing implements<\/li>\n<li>Book cover<\/li>\n<li>Pens\/pencils\/highlighters<\/li>\n<li>3 x 5 inch index cards (1 pkg)<\/li>\n<li>Box of tissues<\/li>\n<li>Colored pencils<\/li>\n<li>Pencil pouch<\/li>\n<li>Flash drive \u2013 would be very helpful<\/li>\n<li>Composition Notebook<\/li>\n<li>1-2 pkgs. 3&#215;3 Sticky Notes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>*Attendance\/Tardy Policy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 I will follow the district attendance policy.<\/p>\n<p>2. 3 tardies in one class, in the same card-marking, will result in a call home and a detention.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 You are responsible for getting all of your work when you are absent.
