Bell Work for 11-12-18:<\/p>\n<p>What did each side believe they were fighting for during the Crusades?<\/p>\n<p>Explain in your own words.<\/p>\n<p>Answer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>Christians<\/u>: believed they were fighting the Crusades in the name of Jesus to take back the place of his birth from infidels<\/li>\n<li><u>Muslims<\/u>: believed they were defending land that was theirs. From their perspective, Christians were brutal invaders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2.) Took notes on (some of) the causes &amp; effects of the Crusades.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Causes<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Muslim Turks take control over the Holy Land of Jerusalem in 1071 CE<\/li>\n<li>Muslim Turks threaten Constantinople &amp; the Byzantine Empire in 1090s<\/li>\n<li>Byzantine Emperor asks Catholic Pope in Rome for help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Effects<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trade between Europe &amp; Asia increases; medicine, knowledge, spices, silk, etc\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Feudalism weakens<\/li>\n<li>Kings become more powerful through the control of large numbers of knights<\/li>\n<li>Tensions between Christian, Muslims, &amp; Jews grew<\/li>\n<li>Pope\u2019s power declines &amp; religious intolerance grows; Church takes the blame<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.)
