Have a parent or sibling give your child a spelling test at the end of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week we have a new spelling pattern, the vowel team OO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spelling words:&nbsp;<\/strong>moon, noon, room, pool, tooth, too<strong>, you, who, new, into<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rule:<\/strong>&nbsp;The spelling pattern OO can represent three sounds (say the words moon, book, and floor to compare the sounds). This week we will be studying words with the long double o sound like in the word moon as well as some high frequency words with the same sound, but a different spelling pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notes:<\/strong>&nbsp;Continue to remind your child to \u201ctap it out\u201d even if they remember how to spell the word, it helps with&nbsp;<strong>permanent<\/strong>&nbsp;spelling memory. The OO sound should only get one tap; it\u2019s two letters but only represents one sound. The<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>y<strong>ou<\/strong>&nbsp;is spelled with ou representing the long \/oo\/ sound<\/li><li>who is very tricky! Three letters represent two sounds. Wh represents the \/h\/ sound and a single o represents the long \/oo\/ sound.<\/li><li>n<strong>ew<\/strong>&nbsp;is tricky because it has the long \/oo\/ sound, but it is spelled with&nbsp;<strong>ew<\/strong>&nbsp;like in chew or flew.<\/li><li>into is a compound word made up of&nbsp;<strong>in<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>to<\/strong>. The words to, too, and two are spelled differently to help the reader understand the authors meaning.<ul><li><strong>To<\/strong>&nbsp;usually indicates a direction like \u2018going to a store\u2019 or \u2018giving something to your friend\u2019.<\/li><li><strong>Too&nbsp;<\/strong>can be used as a conjunction that means the same thing as&nbsp;also&nbsp;or&nbsp;and.&nbsp;<strong>Too<\/strong>&nbsp;can also be used to intensify the word after it like \u2018the candy is too sweet\u2019.<\/li><li><strong>Two<\/strong>&nbsp;represents the number 2.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Every child should be reading at least 40 minutes per day.&nbsp;<\/strong>This can be a combination of reading on Raz Kids to complete the required quizzes, reading on Epic, or any additional reading your child may do.<br><br><strong>Raz Kids<\/strong><br><strong>Levels A-J&nbsp;<\/strong>should read and complete at least 2 quizzes on Raz Kids every day (10 per week).<br><strong>Levels J-Z<\/strong>&nbsp;should read and complete at least one quiz on Raz Kids every day (5 per week).<br><br>If you are not sure of your child\u2019s level please let me know.<br><br>I will be able to see your child\u2019s quiz scores each time they take a quiz, so they should read carefully and look back in the book to check their answers! If they are having trouble I will email you to check in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Math<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This week we are moving on from review and are starting new content that your child has not studied before. There are four assigned lessons.<br><strong>Lessons 23, 24, 25, and 26 will be due on Friday.&nbsp;<\/strong>If your child finishes all four lessons before Friday, please have them work on the homework assignments below and on IXL math instead of moving on.<br><br><strong>If your child is behind on math, please have them complete two lessons per day.<\/strong><br><br><strong>The homework assignments below are optional.<\/strong>&nbsp;They are all in your child\u2019s math homework book. I suggest spending 10-15 minutes on them after the Zearn lesson of the day is completed.<br>Zearn skips lessons that would have been a review day in school. I have included the review homework for these lessons as well- you can choose to skip them or work on them on Friday as a review. You may read the text aloud to them and google or discuss any tricky words- it\u2019s a great idea to have them use the new words they learn in their writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student writing should be at least three sentences long with a goal of five sentences, and it should focus on the information in the article of the day.
