This week in 5th grade we will be learning…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Language Arts:<\/u><\/strong> This week students will continue\u00a0learning about point of view in reading and writing.\u00a0While, they are reading each student will focus on a specific reading strategy (main idea, story elements, sequence of events, and parts of speech). \u00a0During Daily 5 students will continue practicing Daily 5 procedures and focus on learning about various strategies that will help make them better readers. \u00a0We will be focusing on QAR strategies to help them answer comprehension questions. \u00a0In writing we will be focusing on mystery writing.\u00a0 Students will have to read\u00a0an informational article set to their level on Frontrowed.com (same login and password as the math) with guided reading questions everyday.<\/p>\n

Geography<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Adapt<\/strong>\u00a0– to change in order to fit new environmental conditions.<\/li>\n
  2. Bodies of water<\/strong>\u00a0– all the different sizes and shapes of water naturally found on the Earth’s surface. Oceans, seas, bays, lakes, rivers, and ponds are examples of bodies of water.<\/li>\n
  3. Communication<\/strong>\u00a0– ways people send and receive messages thereby linking people and places.<\/li>\n
  4. Environment<\/strong>\u00a0– the geographic characteristics that surround and affect the way people live.<\/li>\n
  5. Environment concerns\/issues<\/strong>\u00a0– interests\u2019 people have about the care of the natural environment.<\/li>\n
  6. Geographic characteristics<\/strong>\u00a0– traits that distinguish one place from another. These are divided into two groups.<\/li>\n
  7. Physical characteristics<\/strong>\u00a0describe the natural environment of the place. They include physical features (natural landforms and bodies of water), weather and climate, soil, vegetation, and animal life.<\/li>\n
  8. Human characteristics<\/strong>\u00a0describe the people of the place past or present their human-made features (buildings, etc), languages, religions, economic activities, and political systems.<\/li>\n
  9. Human-made features<\/strong>\u00a0– changes people have made to the land. These changes include buildings, bridges, tunnels, railroad tracks, dams, monuments, piers, farm fields.<\/li>\n
  10. Land forms<\/b>\u00a0– the different shapes of Earth’s surface. Mountains, hills, plateaus, plains, valleys, peninsulas, and islands are examples of land forms.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Science:<\/u><\/b> We will continue\u00a0learning about Life Science Survival of Organisms. \u00a0Research with your child about the Solar system\u00a0and find out these questions…<\/p>\n

    \n2.) How do the behavioral and physical characteristics of organisms help them survive in their environment?
    \n3.) How do we distinguish between inherited and acquired traits?
    \n4.) How do fossils provide evidence about how species and environmental conditions have changed?
    \n5.) How can species extinction be related to catastrophic events and environmental change?
    \n6.) How do the similarities in traits help us classify organisms?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Social Studies:<\/u><\/b> We will continue\u00a0learning about the Road to the Revolution. \u00a0Research with your child about how and why\u00a0different colonial regions developed in North America and find out these questions…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How did economic issues and political experiences and ideas affect the relationship between Great Britain and the colonies?<\/p>\n
