{"id":205,"date":"2016-09-20T15:09:35","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T19:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/chamseddine\/?p=205"},"modified":"2016-09-20T15:09:35","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T19:09:35","slug":"week-of-september-19-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/chamseddine\/2016\/09\/20\/week-of-september-19-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of September 19, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>This week in 5th grade we will be learning&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Language Arts:<\/u><\/strong> This week students will start learning about narrative stories and story elements.\u00a0While, they are reading each student will focus on a specific reading strategy (main idea, story elements, sequence of events, and parts of speech). \u00a0During Daily 5 students will continue practicing Daily 5 procedures and focus on learning about various strategies that will help make them better readers. \u00a0We will be focusing on QAR strategies to help them answer comprehension questions. \u00a0In writing we will be focusing on writing a narrative\u00a0piece. \u00a0Spelling and vocabulary will begin this\u00a0week. \u00a0Also, starting this\u00a0week students will begin\u00a0taking home an informational article set to their level with guided reading questions, that must be worked on\u00a0each night and due back by Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary Words-<\/strong> force, motion, friction, inertia, gravity, and newton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling Words-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Apples group<\/strong>-has, fix, if, sat, him, six, had, will, bad, wag<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bananas &amp; Carrots group-\u00a0<\/strong>oxygen umbrella, strap, bent, prime, shipment, staple, because, hope, south<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dragon fruit &amp; Eggplant group-<\/strong> advance, transplant, complain, abstract, invade, backpack, debate, daily, happened, candidate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><u>Math:<\/u><\/b>\u00a0This week we will be going over basic math skills.\u00a0Starting this\u00a0week your child should go on frontrowed.com every night for extra math practice. \u00a0They log in using their first name and their last name. \u00a0The class code is k9kyvt.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Science:<\/u><\/b> We will begin\u00a0learning about forces and motion\u00a0focusing on Newton&#8217;s Laws of Motion. \u00a0Research with your child about Forces and Motion and find out these questions&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>How is the motion of an object described relative to its point of reference?<\/li>\n<li>How do forces affect the motion of objects?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><u>Social Studies:<\/u><\/b> We will begin learning about Three Worlds Meet. \u00a0Research with your child about the worlds America, Africa, and Europe\u00a0and find out these questions&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>How were the worlds of\u00a0America, Africa, and Europe alike and different?<\/li>\n<li>How and why did the three worlds meet?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Important Dates<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>9\/29\/16<\/strong> Pizza for snack<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Important Reminders<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please send a healthy snack with your child.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time (<strong>chamsef@dearbornschools.org).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you,<\/p>\n<p>Fatima Chamseddine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week in 5th grade we will be learning&#8230;
