While, they are reading each student will focus on a specific reading strategy (main idea, sequence of events, and parts of speech). We will begin learning about Science Fiction.\u00a0During Daily 5 students will continue learning about various strategies that will help make them better readers. \u00a0Focusing on QAR strategies to help them answer comprehension questions. \u00a0In writing we will be focusing on writing informational piece about pollution. \u00a0Students must write a long constructed response using RACE (restate the question, answer, cite using evidence, and Explain further). \u00a0In spelling we are focusing on Greek root &#8216;ambi&#8217; &amp; &#8216;aero&#8217;. \u00a0Students will receive 5 spelling words and 5 vocabulary words each week. \u00a0Students will begin\u00a0taking home an informational article set to their level with guided reading questions, that must be completed each night.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Spelling words:<\/strong><\/span><strong> ambiguous, aerobics, ambition, ambivalent, aerosol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Vocabulary words:<\/strong><\/span><strong> digestive, amendment, ratio, balances, evaluate\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><u>Math:<\/u><\/b>\u00a0This week we will begin learning about ratios and reviewing basic skills.\u00a0 Your child should go on frontrowed.com every night for extra math practice. \u00a0They log in using their first name and the first initial of their last name and the class code is k9kyvt.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Science:<\/u><\/b> We will continue\u00a0learning about Life Science focusing on\u00a0body systems. \u00a0Students have been researching each body system and will be teaching the facts about their body system to the class.<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Social Studies:<\/u><\/b> We will begin reviewing essential civics and government concepts. \u00a0Research with your child about the U.S. constitution and find out these questions&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Why the U.S. has established both state and federal government?<\/li>\n<li>How is our government organized?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Important Dates<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wax Museum 6\/13\/16 @ 9:00-11:30 am<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Instrumental Concert 6\/10\/16 @ 10:30 am<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. Government assessment 6\/8\/16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5th Grade\u00a0Graduation 6\/15\/16 @ 8:30 am<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5th Grade last day of school (1\/2 day) 6\/15\/16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Important Reminders<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please send snack with your child<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you,<\/p>\n<p>Fatima Chamseddine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Language Arts: This week students will continue\u00a0reading informational articles (science and history) set to their own reading level in class and at home.
