End of Week Updates!

We have had a great week presenting and finishing up the Montessori animal units! All of the students did an excellent job! We spent Tuesday & Wednesday presenting in our classroom to our classmates. This gave them a chance to think about their animal and explain what it needed to survive. It was a great warm up to the presentations we did on Thursday in the cafeteria. We had an open house style and each kid stood next to their book and project and explained about their animal. I received SO MANY compliments about how well they knew their stuff and many couldn’t believe it was kindergarten doing these presentations. The projects will come home today. I will be giving the books in pizza boxes at celebration night.

In Benchmark we have started Unit 9- Meeting Our Needs and Wants. This is always a good unit for kindergarten because sometimes they struggle with “needs”. Since we are a bit ahead in benchmark we will spend 4 weeks on this unit and also tie in some social studies needs and wants lessons throughout.

In Eureka math we have spent the week counting the “say 10 way” then starting to count just normal. The students are completing the exit tickets and those will continue to come home on Fridays.

Reminder that permission slips for the Outdoor Adventure Center are due on Monday with the $2 fee for chaperones. Please make sure to get this in. (If you need a copy email me before the end of the day)

April reading logs are due on MONDAY! 🙂

Talent show forms are in todays folder! Please fill out and return if your child is interested. (…warning…this will be in front of the whole school…)

ADD TO CALENDAR: Please add Montessori Parent Night on Monday, May 22nd from 4:15-5 pm. More details to come.

Have a great weekend!

Reminder!

On Wednesday, April 19th we will be celebrating Ms. Emily’s final day with us! I can not express how helpful and great she has done in our classroom these last 12 weeks! I am so sad to see her go but excited that she is prepared to be an early childhood teacher on her own! I would like to invite you to a “Teacher Shower” on Wednesday 4/19 between 315-345 pm. We will have cupcakes and ice cream to celebrate the fun we had with her. It is a great time to say thanks and give her encouraging words. Buzz for the office at the playground doors and Ms. Bernadette will let you come to the classroom. When you are finished then you can take your child. I think it will be a great way to end her student teaching experience. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Folders today!

Going home today is the permission slip for our May 25th field trip to the Outdoor Adventure Center. Students must have a chaperone accompanying them. The cost is free for students and $2 for parent chaperone. No siblings will be allowed on this field trip. The permission slip and $2 is due BY Monday, May 1st.

End of Week Updates!

This has been a busy week. It was nice to be back to five full days of school! It finally feels like we are able to get to everything in our day. This weather being beautiful has also helped.

We are continuing with Weather and Seasons in Benchmark Unit 8. Along with the writing and stories we are also adding in weather topics for the science unit. We focused on severe weather and what that particular weather looks like, and what we can do to be prepared (have flashlights, candles, canned food, etc.) It can be a scary topic but the students did a great job of understanding why we need to discuss and learn about severe weather. We will continue next week with this unit.

For Eureka math we are working on counting the “Say 10 way”. So you say 7, 8, 9, 10-1, 10-2, 10-3, etc. It can be tricky but it reminds them to not forget about the 10 ones that are included in the count. From their we went into 10 ones and 4 ones is 14. This is paving the way to be able to compose and decompose all of our teen numbers. You will receive the exit tickets each Friday for the lessons that we did during the week. This is a good way for you to see some of the work we are doing. ***Remember these are not checked or graded. I just quickly glance over and make note if it was incorrect.

Social Studies will be combined with Benchmark Unit 9…. so nothing yet. 🙂

Thank you to Mrs. Fournier for our delicious pizza party on Wednesday! The students earned this by having the most reading participation in March!

Reminder that this week was definitely a weather exception. It looks like next week is back to normal temperatures. Please make sure your child has pants, sweaters, and a coat if necessary for recess. Unless it is pouring rain we will be outside to play! The school rule is if the temperature is below 60 degrees the student must have a sweater or coat on.
