We have finished mammals and subtraction! We were also able to finish up Unit 6- Stories Have a Message. This focused on reading independently, writing about the stories we had read, and indicating whether stories are Fiction or Non-Fiction. Busy and quick week, but still finished what we needed to πŸ™‚

Next week we will focus on birds, addition/subtraction mixed together, and starting Unit 7- Holidays and Celebrations!

Reminder that field trip form is due by Thursday, March 3rd.

We have virtual school on Tuesday, March 1st so reading logs will not be due until Wednesday! March reading log is coming home today!

Classroom faces t-shirts were shipped today so I expect them to be delivered by Monday! I should be passing them out to you on Wednesday of next week.

Howe school spirit wear is coming home today for those who ordered.

In folders you will find a note explaining how we will be celebrating March is Reading month. We are doing one school-one book and all reading The Wizard of Oz in school. Your child is expected to read books each night for 20 minutes and color a yellow brick of the “Reading Road to Emerald City” reading log. Things are explained in the letter but please email if you have any questions.

If you know anyone who has a child starting Kindergarten in the Fall we are now accepting applications! Our school fills seats with siblings and by word of mouth! Please mention to anyone who may be interested in joining our school community.

Finally this week we have started a bathroom chart to make students more aware of how many times they are leaving the room during instruction time. Right now we are just tracking and seeing (it is done by class number so no one else really knows) how many times they are leaving the room. After spring break we are going to try and get it down to one in the morning and one in the afternoon so they are prepared for first grade!

Have a great weekend!

Back to school tomorrow!

I hope everyone has had a GREAT winter break! I can’t wait to see the kinders tomorrow morning! It will be a quick week back learning about mammals and finishing subtraction.

the district announced last Friday that masks are now optional for staff, students, and visitors in the building. I ask that if you want your child to continue wearing a mask like we have been to please email me that! I am hoping to know that info before tomorrow so that those students don’t go maskless because they see their friends doing it if a parent prefers something else. We will spend these 3 days talking about choices and how people do things differently and that is ok. Bullying or being mean because some is or is not wearing a mask will not be tolerated. I’m sure that our class will have no problems with this πŸ™‚

reminder to send in the homework tomorrow so we can have our presentations this week!

Class news!

We have officially finished reptiles! The students did a great job looking at books from the library, listening to reptiles books online, and watching videos to learn about reptiles. We will move on to mammals next week for our short week.

Included in todays folder is winter break homework! It is only 1 sheet. Your child must write this by themselves! I will not accept a paper written by the parent…. they can do this! You can write the sentence on another piece of paper and they can copy it onto the actual homework page. Directions are attached.

Reminder that you need to be able to access and log into your childs Schoology account. The students will be virtually learning on Tuesday, March 1st. All zoom links (2 total) will be posted on schoology for you to join. We will have an ela zoom, art zoom, and show and share zoom. They will also have additional paperwork to complete during the day along with completing their “goals” for the day. It will all be explained to them and you on Monday, February 28th. You need to be able to access Schoology.

Library books are allowed to be brought home for the remainder of the year! Please make sure your child keeps this in their classroom book bag so we still have them daily in school. If books are lost or damaged you will be responsible in paying for them so keep that in mind with younger siblings.

Thanks for thinking of me on Monday- Valentine’s day. That was very sweet of you all.

The next spelling list will be for 2 weeks– Test not until March 4. Lots of time to practice! πŸ™‚

Please make sure you are reading DAILY over break! So important to keep practicing.

Finally- No School Friday- Tuesday. I will see you back at school next Wednesday, February 23rd πŸ™‚

Have a great winter break!

Weekly updates!

What a busy— full week!

We finished arctic animals and took our -ig family test today! New spelling words are coming home today (we did not practice them in class today…. it was strictly math and 100s day)

Next week we are going to study reptiles (I will follow the February calendar and we will make up fish in March).

Reminder that EVERY child needs valentines (19) to pass out on Monday! They just need to write their names in the from section. (DO NOT put names in the TO part!)

Below is our class picture from today and their predictions for the Superbowl on Sunday πŸ™‚

Dental Students Visited!

We were fortunate enough to have some of the high schoolers who are in the dental program at the Michael Berry Career Center come to our classroom this morning. They had 4 fun stations set up for the students to learn the importance of good oral hygiene. The kids had a great time pretending to brush teeth, cleaning “sugar bugs” off correctly after we eat, and choosing healthy treats to keep our teeth strong and healthy.

They gave each student a goodie bag! This includes toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and a color tab. The color tab is meant to be sucked on. It turns your mouth that color so your child can see when brushing where the plague is that needs to be removed. The color tabs can be eaten and are non-toxic. Mrs. Hendley’s dentist in Allen Park uses them all the time for the younger kids. The bags are sealed so if you do not want your child to have this you can dispose of it.

All bags are stapled closed and they were told to wait until home to open them.
