Folders

I cleaned out baskets last night. Papers coming home from the last couple weeks. Rhyming and teen number papers should already be done. If they aren’t please finish. It is good practice to go along with the Montessori materials.

Tomorrow is sports day! Wear your favorite team or colors!

Folders

The paper in the folder for Haunted Engineering can be turned in tomorrow even though it says due today. We talked with the coordinator and she made the exception because we were not at school on Friday.

Please put money and slip in yellow folders tomorrow if you are interested 🙂

Updates!

It has been a very busy couple of weeks with half day Friday and field trip Friday back to back! I apologize for the lack of weekly updates post the last two weeks.

We studied fire safety and pumpkins so far in October! The kids did great during fire safety week learning why we needed smoke alarms and plans on where to meet parents in an emergency. We talked about being prepared always keeps us safe. Thanks to all who engaged with their children and checked your own homes for smoke alarms and made sure to have that conversation with them. We talked in class about the importance of fire safety and when to ask for help if needed.

Last week before the orchard we started to learn the pumpkin life cycle. The students learned that just like an apple– a pumpkin has a blossom that eventually dies off and turns into the bottom of the pumpkin. Many were also surprised to hear that pumpkins are green when they are small and turn orange as they grow! This week we will be learning about the inside of a pumpkin and the vocabulary words that are the parts of a pumpkin.

Heart words will be sent home each Wednesday. Please make sure to write how you made it in those boxes. Everyone did a great job practicing those words!

Calendar Reminders-

Sight Words Update!

Sight word assessments are coming home in today’s folder. I assessed each student over the last two weeks on the Dearborn Public Schools required sight word list. I am sending home a copy for you to look over. Your child’s sight word homework (it’s called heart word practice) will be based on the words that they did not know from the list. I will re-assess in January and May. The goal is to get your child to memorize (know by heart) as many of the words as they can. (If they memorize them all I have additional words- don’t worry)! Our goal is to get your child to become a confident reader and writer and knowing sight words help them do so.

The heart word practice sheet is in today’s folder as well. It has four columns; read it, make it, trace it, and write it. I would create flash cards for the read it section that they can have at home and practice throughout the week. For make it be creative! They can make the words with letter cereal, write in shaving cream, spell out with playdough. Anything that you have that would interest you child in making the word. *Note– I do not need to see the make it final projects. Just write in that box how you made it. For trace it your child simply traces the word in the box. Finally for write it please have your child write the words throughout the week. When they learn how to write and spell them they can carry it over into writers workshop. These papers will come home each Wednesday and will be due by Monday. Occasionally we will skip a week if it is short or around a holiday. You will see a post from me on the weeks we will skip. We will also be working on these words daily in the classroom.

If you have any questions about the above please email me 🙂
