{"id":831,"date":"2018-08-21T00:57:38","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T04:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/campd\/?p=831"},"modified":"2018-08-21T00:59:38","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T04:59:38","slug":"welcome-to-the-2018-2019-school-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/campd\/2018\/08\/21\/welcome-to-the-2018-2019-school-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello! \u00a0We hope everyone is enjoying their summer! \u00a0We\u2019d like to welcome all our new students and their families to the class! \u00a0We\u2019re looking forward to a great year. \u00a0Since we do have quite a few new families, I thought I\u2019d post a few reminders to get everyone started! \u00a0 We understand not only the students are transitioning from a K-12 program, but so are the parents. \u00a0We hope this little \u201csurvival guide\u201d will help get things off to a great start for you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>FIRST DAY of SCHOOL\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>August 27th &#8211; half day \u2013 dismissal at 11:00 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>August 28th &#8211; full day &#8211; students will need to bring a cold lunch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>** Please note, while teachers and staff start the previous week, we will be in meetings and unable to answer phone calls or emails<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSROOM PHONE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"tel:313-701-7985\">313-701-7985<\/a> \u00a0 Call or text anytime. \u00a0If you would like us to call you back, \u00a0please leave a message. \u00a0We do not answer the phone during instructional time. \u00a0If there is an emergency please text so that we will see it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUPPLIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic Planner \u00a0(Monthly, 8\u00d710) \u00a0 MOST IMPORTANT!<\/li>\n<li>5 Pencils<\/li>\n<li>Colored Pencils<\/li>\n<li>Pencil Case<\/li>\n<li>Calculator<\/li>\n<li>Thermal lunch bag with cold pack<\/li>\n<li>Watch (or other time keeping device such as a phone or ipod)<\/li>\n<li>Girls \u00a0\u2013 Purse AND wallet<\/li>\n<li>Boys \u2013 wallet<\/li>\n<li>1 box of kleenex<\/li>\n<li>Girls \u2013 personal hygiene items to be kept in purse or backpack<\/li>\n<li>OPTIONAL but HELPFUL: \u00a01 container of disinfecting wipes (such as Chlorox)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>LUNCH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students need to bring a cold lunch every day beginning August 28th. \u00a0 Please make sure foods are nonperishable and\/or lunch bags have a cold pack in them. \u00a0Lunches should be brought in a thermal\/insulated bag. (Not a paper or plastic bag)<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOURS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrival 8 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Dismissal 2:45 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Half Day Dismissal 11:00 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Lunch 11 a.m. \u00a0depending on job assignment<\/li>\n<li>Late Start Arrival 9 a.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CALENDAR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are part of Howe School and follow the elementary calendar regarding days off and half days. \u00a0Additionally, if Howe School is closed due to inclement weather, we will also be closed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOB SITES and COMMUNITY BASED INSTRUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Job sites and CBI will begin towards the end of September\/beginning of October, once transportation is able to schedule our runs. \u00a0This is a HUGE task and in the meantime, it\u2019s a good time for the students to get reacquainted and used to a routine. \u00a0By the time we\u2019re ready to go out, it\u2019s not so overwhelming. \u00a0We are one of the only districts that provides this much transportation to get the students into the community, and we are so thankful to the Transportation Department for their support of our program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEETINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you need to meet with us we are happy to do so. \u00a0Please call or text our classroom phone to set up an appointment. \u00a0Showing up unannounced takes instructional time away from students and it is hard to focus on your needs when we should be teaching. \u00a0We can accommodate most schedules if we know ahead of time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FACEBOOK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to \u201cLike\u201d our Facebook Page: \u00a0\u201cDearborn Transition Program\u201d to see pictures of the students and our activities throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMUNICATION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s very important to check you son\/daughters <strong>planner<\/strong> every night. \u00a0This is the link between us and you. \u00a0It will have job assignments, community based instruction assignments, field trips, etc inside.<\/p>\n<p>This <strong>blog<\/strong> is published (most) Friday afternoons and will go directly to your inbox. \u00a0Please make sure you read it to stay on top of classroom information. \u00a0Paper notes are not sent home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remind System<\/strong>: \u00a0If you provided your cell phone number, you have been subscribed. \u00a0This will be used for group texts to be sent from one of the classroom teachers to the entire class, while keeping phone numbers private. \u00a0You cannot reply to these messages \u2013 they are outgoing only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facebook Page<\/strong>: \u00a0A fun way to see pictures of the students and their activities in the program. \u00a0Sometimes we will post other helpful information there as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meetings<\/strong>: \u00a0We are happy to meet with you if you would like a meeting. \u00a0 Please just schedule an appoinment as mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language Assistance<\/strong>: \u00a0If you need assistance, please call Lila Amen at <a href=\"tel:313-827-3120\">313-827-3120<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy what\u2019s left of summer!
