{"id":715,"date":"2017-11-11T11:55:59","date_gmt":"2017-11-11T16:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/campd\/?p=715"},"modified":"2017-11-11T11:59:48","modified_gmt":"2017-11-11T16:59:48","slug":"november-11-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/campd\/2017\/11\/11\/november-11-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"November 11, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good Afternoon!\u00a0 I hope this finds everyone well this bright Saturday afternoon.\u00a0 Personally, I&#8217;ve got a load of laundry going, chicken soup on the stove and Ryan and I are getting ready to take Rosie (our Rottie) for a walk.\u00a0 Life is good!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to take this time to wish those of you who have served in our military a Happy Veterans Day!\u00a0 Thank you for your service and sacrifice!<\/p>\n<p>School Supplies:\u00a0 A few students still do not have colored pencils for class.\u00a0 This is something we use quite frequently.\u00a0 If you are unable to get out and purchase them, please send $2 with your son\/daughter and we will purchase them on our next CBI activity.\u00a0 We often walk to 5 Below or The Dollar Tree and can purchase them there.<\/p>\n<p>Skills we are working on in class:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibility:<\/strong>\u00a0 Having all materials required for class, ready to learn when the lesson is started.\u00a0 Some students (most students) are waiting until the class starts and then leaving the class to get pencils, planners, etc. out of their backpacks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Respect:<\/strong>\u00a0 Not talking when another person is talking.\u00a0 Not talking when the teacher is talking.\u00a0 Not getting out of your seat to use the bathroom when a lesson has started.\u00a0 (There is ample time before and after our lessons for the bathroom)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classroom:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Dollar Up Method &#8211; how many dollar bills should you give a cashier given a certain total.\u00a0 (Example:\u00a0 If you bill is $6.88, how many one dollar bills would you give a cashier to pay your bill?)\u00a0 \u00a0We are also working on job interview skills and what makes a good employee<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocational:<\/strong>\u00a0 Work Quality and Quantity\u00a0 \u00a0Doing your best work, and staying on task.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Based Instruction:<\/strong>\u00a0 Using a map\/directory in the mall.\u00a0 The difference between Department Stores and Specialty Stores, Using an elevator and escalator (tricky!) and The Dollar Up Method<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attendance\/Responsibility<\/strong>:\u00a0 We have noticed that some students have been missing quite frequently but showing up for their day at Fairlane\u00a0 or Kerby&#8217;s.\u00a0 Only for the absences to begin again.\u00a0 While both activities are learning experiences, we require students to participate in <strong>all<\/strong> of the learning experiences:\u00a0 classroom, job sites and community sites, not just their favorites.\u00a0 For most students,\u00a0 participation in these activities is part of their IEP., and without expected attendance, they will not make progress towards their goals.\u00a0 We will be looking at attendance closely in the coming week; students who do not have a minimum of 75% attendance record may have to miss their CBI activities (Fairlane, Kerby&#8217;s, Target, Planet Fitness) until their attendance is back in good standing.\u00a0 If you son or daughter has a health concern that is preventing them from attending, please contact us and provide a doctors note, so that we are aware of this and your son\/daughter is not penalized.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upcoming Dates:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>November 22 -24 &#8211; No School &#8211; Thanksgiving Break<\/p>\n<p>December 2\u00a0 &#8211; Weekend Activity at Buddy&#8217;s Pizza &#8211; details coming soon!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Future Event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>January 18 (tentative date)\u00a0 &#8211; Parent Meeting\u00a0 \u00a0S.T.E.P.
