{"id":1444,"date":"2018-09-17T10:46:29","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T14:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/burkep\/?p=1444"},"modified":"2018-09-17T10:46:29","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T14:46:29","slug":"official-start-of-our-bee-hive-blog-sept-17th-21st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/burkep\/2018\/09\/17\/official-start-of-our-bee-hive-blog-sept-17th-21st\/","title":{"rendered":"Official Start of Our Bee Hive Blog&#8212;Sept. 17th-21st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Parents!<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to Mrs. Burke&#8217;s second grade blog.\u00a0 I want to thank all the families who attended our DuVall Open House on Thursday.\u00a0 It was great meeting so many parents and showing you where your children spend so much of their weekly time.\u00a0 All the busy bees are settling into our routine nicely and working well like little bees do!\u00a0 We&#8217;ve already had 2 special Fridays due to working together and earning good behavior stones.<\/p>\n<p>Our weekly routine in Hive 108:<\/p>\n<p>Spelling: ( short vowel patterns and adding a &#8220;magic e&#8221; to make long vowels)\u00a0 Our words are:\u00a0 at, ate, mad, made, fin, fine, not, note, hop, hope and our bonus words are: tap, tape, slid, slide.\u00a0 Our sentence is:\u00a0 We can hop and then slide into the fine pool.\u00a0 \u00a0Just a reminder that spelling homework is using one of the ideas on the back of the children&#8217;s red folders.\u00a0 Choose one per day to complete and this stays at home.\u00a0 Also, we will be practicing lower case letters when working on our spelling lessons.\u00a0 Work on this at home would be greatly appreciated!<\/p>\n<p>Reading:\u00a0 We will be\u00a0 continually work on strategies for comprehension, fluency and accuracy this week adding the strategies to our CAFE board within our classroom.\u00a0 These are strategies you can have your child demonstrate at home during their 10 minutes of shared reading at home each night.\u00a0 Your children will also be introduced to our classroom routines for Listen to Reading and Work on Writing.<\/p>\n<p>Writing:\u00a0 We will be working on a personal narrative story&#8212;putting our ideas in\u00a0 sequential order after brainstorming ideas and utilizing a story board to answer who?, what?, where?, when?, and how? questions .<\/p>\n<p>Math:\u00a0 We continue to work on addition and subtraction within one hundred using decomposing and bonding.\u00a0 Homework has and will be sent home almost daily.\u00a0 Please be sure these are returned to school the next day, for we correct them with partners and as a group.\u00a0 \u00a0 We are becoming more familiar with our new Eureka Math program and children are catching on.\u00a0 We are approaching the end of Module 1 and I am anticipating our first assessment on Friday.\u00a0 Please watch your child&#8217;s planner for this could change.\u00a0 I will be introducing the children to a math computer program for review of this Module, so again watch your child&#8217;s planner for further information.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies:\u00a0 As a class we are putting together an &#8220;Our Community&#8230;.Dearborn&#8221;, folder with human and natural characteristics, businesses, transportation, how our community differs from others and maps of our community.<\/p>\n<p>A few extra tidbits:<\/p>\n<p>*LATE START\u00a0 this Wednesday, September 19th<\/p>\n<p>*Continue to send in Box Tops \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>*Please submit your information in the office for I-Chat form completion<\/p>\n<p>*Please practice tying shoes with your child.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much for your support and if you have any questions or concerns, don&#8217;t hesitate to inquire.<\/p>\n<p>Again, welcome to Hive 108!<\/p>\n<p>Fondly,<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Burke<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Parents!
