Students who attain the Middle School Seal will be honored at their school\u2019s 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grade honors assembly where they will receive a certificate and an insignia of their accomplishment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To earn the Seal students completing 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grade must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earn a proficient or higher score on the English language arts portion of the state exam (currently MEAP) in 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grade<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If required, earn a proficient or higher score on the state English proficiency test (currently WIDA)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Satisfy one of the following requirements:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete 1 year of an 8<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grade world language course with a final grade of B or above<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pass the district Level 1 test out exam (must test out by January)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare a 1 page essay in both languages: Why is it important to be fluent in multiple languages?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make a presentation in a language other than English to designated teachers and administrators <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deadline to have everything completed is May 2, 2016<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applications are available in the counseling office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more information, please see Mr. Renko.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Middle School Seal of Biliteracy Earning the Dearborn Middle School Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates significant commitment to fluency in two or more languages.
