Students will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amount of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. They will read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Students will learn to mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 of 100 from a given number 100-900. They will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Also, they will \u00a0read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.They will solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and \u00a2 symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will work on narrative writing. \u00a0They will work on drafting, editing, revising and publishing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong>: Students will continue to learn about plants and insects. \u00a0We will be investigating and discussing butterflies, mealworms\/beetles, silkworm moths and brassica plants.\u00a0 Students will be drawing, writing, comparing and contrasting\u00a0 the life cycles of\u00a0 insects and plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Studies-<\/strong>Students will\u00a0understand that communities have to solve issues by taking sides on a community issue and giving facts to support their decision. \u00a0We will be studying and taking our unit test this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week our second grade students will be working on: Reading: \u00a0Students will learn how to\u00a0describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
